I have no idea what a game journal is; this feature was added during one of my absences, and I have ignored it until now. I assume this is for making topics related specifically to my games; therefore, I will do just that. I will open with my mission statement, then list notable features of my game, then list updates for this version, and conclude with a Bible verse that God gives me.

Mission Statement: For some four and a half years now, I have played and made games on the OHRRPGCE. The first game I played that I didn't make was Exposing the Unknown. I was annoyed by its profanity, and disappointed when I found that this was only the tip of the iceberg of profanity, unnecessary sexual content, and irreverant treatment of the Christian faith found in OHR games and almost as bad on the forums. I therefore took it upon myself, and when I tried to give it up, had it layed upon me even harder by God, to clean up the OHR community from the inside out. Because I'm trying to fight against all that is evil on the OHR, I often take up defense of things generally disliked by OHR users; lack of plotscripting, ripping, and storyline cliche. Those of you who hate those will automatically hate my game; but if, as I do, you think that none of those are bad, per se, you may just enjoy this, and some of my other, games.

Notable Features:

You can catch Pokemon.

You can rename your heroes and their altered names appear in the textboxes. Eat your hearts out, Wolf's Quest and Darkmoon.

Many pieces of scenery have humorous text when you check them. Well, I find them funny, at least.

Some NPCs have names. Of course, "*" is a very common name in Dragon Questia(it's pronounced "Celeste" for girls and "Astro" for guys), and most Mobians don't give away their names.

I use sound effects. This means that, at present, you must play this game on the Nightly version.

I work on this game as often as I can, for no more than one hour a day. If I can, I update it the same day. Sure, this resets my download count, but I can live with not being the most downloaded until the game is finished.

There is a hero who has a 1-character limit to his name. This is a joke feature.

Updates for this version:

I added a ton of new sound effects. The weapons and spells don't all sound like Sonic the Hedgehog now! This is due to the fact that I found the section of the OHRRPGCE Wiki containing a bunch of 8-bit Ogg files.

There is a Green Shell item, which can be used in battle. It is sometimes dropped when you defeat green koopas or boomerang brothers.

Boomerang brothers now drop boomerangs and green shells, instead of hammers and boomerangs.

Characters can use more equipment(chainmail is no longer useless, because Tails can use it and it's got different stats from Leather!).

MegaMan can obtain a Wrecking Ball from the defeat of Eggman. He can either equip it as a powerful weapon, or learn the WreckBall spell from it.

All normal physical attacks give you 1 MP each time you use them; I added this because I was getting annoyed at running out of MP for Nayte all the time.

Mobotropilis now has a plot event, and two piles of plot boulders. The funny text for the plot boulders isn't finished yet.

Characters in Burlingmarne now "Walk in place" instead of "Stand Still." The same is true of Bubblyburg. The reason for the previous behavior is that those areas were made before that feature was implemented. In fact, this game has an eight-letter filename because that was the limit when I first started working on it.

Funny:

I still haven't fixed Luigi's rename screen; you can put up to 17 characters in his name. This messes up his text boxes.

The game, being made on an unstable version of the engine, tends to crash. A lot.

I drew the Sally sprite myself.

Otto Mattik the Hedgehog is a character belonging to my younger brother. He didn't want a cameo, but was happy when he got one, anyway.

The purple pikmin still hasn't been nerfed. He'll kick all your butts.

Bible Verse:
A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke(Proverbs, 13:1).

Well, it's update time again.

Updates:

All characters, besides the weird joke character, can now be renamed with up to 6 characters(some used to be limited to 5, others to 6, Luigi to 17, and Olimar wasn't renamable).

I've mapped out the Castle Paradox level, but I haven't done any of the battles for it yet.

There are several NPCs on Castle Paradox.

I've given descriptions to just about every spell and special attack in the game.

There is now text for the Plot Boulders.

Maybe Later:

I still haven't nerfed the Purple Pikman.

I still haven't made any minigames, although I do plan on having a Casino Night area accessible from Mobotropolis.

Mobotropolis still doesn't sell Pokeballs.

Bible Verse:

Run now, I pray thee, to meet her, and say unto her, "Is it well with thy husband? Is it well with the child?" and she said, "It is well."
(2nd Kings, 4:26)

I'm not sure I understand this. You dislike the fact that most OHR games use sinful ideas, but then you turn around and make a game based directly on sin? I'm not sure why you think stealing graphics is a good way to "show the light" to the OHR community.

Well, as far as ripping goes, I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I don't make any money off of anyone else's ideas, and I don't reduce the ammount of money that the companies get. Also, if I were not to rip, I would be being dishonest on how I truly think, feel, and beleive. One of the reasons that Wolf's Quest sucked so much was because I refused to rip anything, and in the end I wound up ripping off James, anyway.

Another thing is that all OHR games rip something. Story elements, graphics, music, the idea of magic or the use of swords. Everything comes from somewhere, and if I weren't honest about where I get my ideas, I wouldn't be being honest at all.

A third thing is that so many OHR users treat ripping like some unspeakable evil, when ultimately it doesn't matter. It hurts noone, and ultimately it helps the game designer because it's faster and often better looking than original material.

Finally, ripping raw material allows me to be more creative with the storyline, while originality of material causes uncreativity in storyline.

Now, as for the updates:

The Purple Pikmin has been nerfed.

The random battles and plot boulders have been added to Castle Paradox. If you flame a flamer, a troll, or a PIKAHCU!!!, an Admin shows up to kill you and forces your party to flee from battle. If you flame a randomly generated Nathan Karr, only Inky shows up to his defense.

Nathan Karr has a 99% chance of dropping a Nintendo Logo. He has a .99% chance of dropping nothing. He drops a very useful weapon on the last .01%.

Throwing a Poke Ball at a PIKAHCU!!! causes you to catch a Pikachu.

The first OHR game parody(Winged Man) has been added to Castle Paradox.

There is a new weapon, the Wing Rapier, which can be used by Nayte and Mega Man.

Still Missing:

Casino Night Zone

More OHR game parodies.

Stable OHR version.

Bible Verse:

And it came to pass, when King Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD.(2nd Kings, 19:1)

Stealing is stealing. There's no way you can candy coat that.

And the only reason you believe Wolf's Quest sucked is because you've somehow fallen into the belief that good games use professional graphics.
If you took the time to develop your own artistic style instead of ripping graphics, I'm sure that you would gradually see that ripping is not the only way to go.

What? I think you're heavily confusing inspiration with ripping.
Your examples are instances where the game maker attempts (Although not successfully every time) to advance such ideas.
Ripping is blatantly stealing something.
That's like saying that no game should be made of pixel art, because that would be a rip-off of Pac-Man.

Quote:

Wrong. It hurts the community when others come to visit us and think "Oh, more Final Fantasy Paradies." And it makes us look weak.
And personally, I'd be plenty sad if someone decided to take my work without contacting me.

Quote:

There is no possible way that you could link graphics with storyline. Camdog's Bliss had a wonderful storyline and had original, yet rough, graphics. While FF7 had (As some people seem to claim) great graphics and a yet horrible story.

If you're going to rip graphics, then rip graphics.
Just don't try to justify it.

I'm going to rip graphics and music no matter what anyone else thinks or says. I'm too far into the project to stop now, and I think that ripping really is the way to go here.

I actually have drawn plenty of my own graphics, and I do have my own specific art style. Most of my original sprites look almost halfway-decent now.

I've also noticed that the people that urge me most strongly not to rip tend to be the people that rip the most blatantly.

It may be wrong, but it's just part of who and what I am. Everyone is willing to forgive those sins he doesn't beleive to be sinful, and I am no exception.

Also, I think that FF7's graphics suck, although not quite as bad as FF8's. I also think that I would have said this back when the game was new.

Updates:

Luigi and MegaMan can learn the Heal spell from an item.

There are tons of more spells.

Spammers can now be found on the CastleParadox forums.

Antidote is no longer useless, because there are now enemies with poison attacks.

Countless equipment tweaks.

There are now parodies of Fenrir, Gizmog, the generic "newbie game," the thing that people do where they only upload a zip containing a text file, STOP, and Arfenhouse.

You can talk to CUSTOM.EXE on the CastleParadox forum.

Nayte's palette has been fixed. Now his scabbard is a coppery brown, instead of dark yellow.

You can get pokemon and pokeballs from the Pokemon trainer(BLUE) at Mobotrpolis.

King Mattik now gives you a letter from your dad, explaining a little bit more of your origins.

Bugs:

The shops at Mobotropolis are messed up. They keep resetting everything to the default price.

The game still crashes after almost every battle, and sometimes just from switching maps.

The "check costs when used as a weapon" bitset doesn't seem to be working, taking a great deal of emphasis off of the game's magic. You're supposed to get 1 MP per normal attack.

Many attacks often use the wrong sound effect.

When a character learns a new spell from an item, the wrong attack's name is often displayed. For example, when MegaMan learns Jump from a Wing Saber, the text says "Mega learned Land."

I mentioned ~*~xeon~*~ in my list of "bad newbie games," but it has been updated since then. I'm debating whether or not to download the new version.

In a previous update, I called the Wing Saber a Wing Rapier, even though it obviously has a curved blade.

Still to come:

More parodies.

Casino Night Zone.

Stuff for the new playable character, Yames Svenson, to equip.

Bible Verse:
And the army of the Chaldees pursued after the king, and overtook him in the plains of Jericho: and all his army were scattered from him.

2nd Kings, 25: 5.

This is an engine bug and is fixed in the latest nightly.

Well, if you're going to keep it on your list, then you'd better well play it.

Shouldn't "Yames" be spelled "James"? Scandinavian pronunciation would mean "Yames" is pronounced "eye-aims" and "James" is pronounced "yaims."

I'm starting to suspect you're just flipping your Bible open, pointing to a random verse, and copying that.

What version of game are you using? Would you get a nightly and check if it still crashes after battles and map changes?

That would be incredibly disrespectful, but I don't think it's enough to call for a banning. Neutral

The character, Yames Svenson, has his name's spelling Anglicanized. The J in most scandinavian languages is equivalent to our I or Y, which are often equivalent to eachother. I think it's stupid to try to translate a word based on what the character looks like. This would mean translating "Ichi (1)" from Japanese as "-," and "Ni (2)" as "=," because those are the characters we have that look the most similar.

While I may be being a jerk about parodying other peoples' work, I don't generally rip from the games I'm making fun of. The only exceptions to this are one screenshot of Knight's Quest 1, and one of Arfenhouse. Oh, yeah. And the guy from the CUSTOM icon. I rarely even mention games by their actual names.

If the Admins feel that my conduct deserves banning, they should ban me and waste no time doing so.

I'm going to rip no matter what because:

1: I'm lazy.

2: The copyrighted characters are in my mind and demand that I put them in the game. I feel like it's just plain wrong to try to make my own graphics for something when there is an existing graphic of it. Do we really need another poorly-drawn OHR Mario sprite?

3: I'm lazy.

4: Other people say it's bad, and I'm quite contrarian. If the widespread position of this community were that ripping was okay, I'd probably make only games that never ripped anything.

5: I'm lazy.

Now, as much as I'd love to check the nightly every night and only post bugs that haven't been fixed, I simply cannot access the internet every day. The version I had been using was as old as my previous post, because every time I do this I upload the game, post on my journal, and then get the latest Nightly.

I wish I had time to thoroughly playtest every version of this game, but I'm only allowed to play videogames for one hour a day. I'd rather spend 30 minutes making 2 minutes of new dialogue than playing the game's first 10 over again three times.

Updates:

Some sprite editing you won't even notice.

Yimmy can use more stuff.

Some Pokemon can now learn MegaPunch or MegaKick.

Bugs:

I didn't even spend five minutes playesting from Friday's nightly. I'd assume there are slightly less than before.

Yet to come:

Casino Night, at some point.

Implementation of some new Nightly features.

More parodies.

More Pokemon.

More excuses for you to hate me. As if you needed any!

Also, the "nothing new here" comment by PHC was extremely funny. You see, in the first version containing Castle Paradox, there were Flamers and Trolls in the random battle sections, but I forgot about the Spammers. I added those recently. Of course, we've had all three of those on the forums since the website was founded(and I've been each of them at least once). I may be pointing out the obvious, but PHC is a comedic genius. I might just have to try out a third one of his games.

I loved FFH and Timestream Saga in spite of the content thereof that I hated and found offensive. I loved Exposing the Unknown in spite of its swearing. I loved Arfenhouse in spite of its content. I love this website more than life itself, which is all the more reason for me to hate what I beleive to be wrong with it.

I now conclude:
O praise the Lord, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people.
For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the Lord endureth forever. Praise ye the Lord.
Psalm 117.

This would be a valid argument if they didn't use the exact same alphabet as us. Anglicization makes the word look and sound like English, not make the English look like the foreign pronunciation.

Ripping isn't a bannable offense, just one that will turn people off to your game.
