Even if you never actually use Ido (or Esperanto) learning such a simple and clean language will actually improve your understanding of your first language. |

I designed an easier language as a freshman in high school...
The only reason a language like esperanto is "easy" is because it uses roots from existing languages. a priori languages are the only kind that are equally as easy or hard for anyone. Consider how relatively easy it may be for me to learn esperanto, but how much harder it would be for someone who speaks cantonese.
And the one thing that so many people forget is that people learn different languages usually out of need or extreme interest. It's a beautiful idea, but I just don't think it's that important. |

Perhaps that partially true, but the primary reason languages like Esperanto are easier to learn is intentionality in design. In other words, since Esperanto didn't sprout up spontaneously and haphazardly among a group of people like natural languages do, there are absolutely no exceptions. Nothing is spelled weird, nothing is conjugated in a strange way, and so there are nothing but basics and vocabulary to master. |

I guess I might as well ask this right now. What the hell is Esperanto? |
