Hi, my name is Jack.

I've been a member now for nearly two years. I've never released a real game, and I might not ever, but I have worked on quite a bit in my time (all either doomed to never be worked on, or being the victim of a deletion, or crash). I've barely participated in conversations, often time leaving small comments, and all contests I've been in.. I never actually contested in. Most people would just call me a lurker.

During my time at Castle Paradox, the only online community I've actually ever been in, I've seen a lot of great ideas, wonderful art, smashing music. I've seen people who help out, and people who flame you for just being you. But most of these things have died out.

The way that this place is going now.. It's likely to be just the Neverending Story that we see updated in the forums, and of course the occasional off-topic thread.

Castle Paradox is dieing. Not because of a lack of actual members, but because a lack of actual OHR discussion. When new members join, all they see is the Neverending Story thread, and someone asking for help in plotscripting. Nobody talks about their damn games anymore, nobody shares artwork, and most music is added without much introduction (as well as most games too).

But what we need to do is stop bitching about all this stuff that we already know. Yes, Castle Paradox isn't the same as it used to be, but just saying that won't get it back the way it was.

START TALKING ABOUT YOUR GAMES.

SHARE SHARE SHARE!

I want you all who are working on games, or even just have ideas, to go to the forums, or your own journal, AND POST SOMETHING!

You don't need to work on your game in secret unless it's for good reason. If you update something in your game, or if you feel like you have a problem with it, or you need help.. POST SOMETHING!

Thank you for your time.

I agree, Jack. CP is dying! People need to make more games, talk more about their games! As fun as the NES is Raspberry! , it's still not OHR related. These stupid, random posts and threads should be replaced by real OHR conversations and works! BAH! That is all.

I thought this was a good bye post

Anyways, I do agree with what you are encouraging, though I am fed up with the frequent usage of the verb that is described of cp: dying.

Heh, I thought that's what some people would think, too. Oh well.

Yeah it is said quite a bit around here, but it is true. How about.. nearing it's demise?

This goes against what Twinhamster thinks about my advertising of the game , since he believes either people shouldn't advertise their game much, or he finds the way I do it annoying.

Still, I agree with you. There really should be more discussion for OHR games, but it seems a lot of people lack the incentive to do so, especially with so many of the old members who were more focused on OHR games are now gone.

I think what would be good is to be encouraging people who talk about OHR games, give them a little push in the right direction and try and get them to get info out and release demos and what not.

You could help too by releasing something for once.

I'm sorry if I sounded like I disapproved of anything, but advertising isn't the same as talking about game design. I could tell you all to download and review any random game without telling you a thing about it. That is advertising. I believe that the proper way to advertise a game would be to advertise the games' features and specialties, rather than the fact that it's simply completed. I actually don't have a problem with advertising. I just get irritated when a game is advertised with no new information.

I think the reason why CP is dying is because everybody is keeping their projects secret. We're a paranoid bunch that doesn't want any early ideas to be stolen.

Aye, you did whore your game around quite a bit without actually saying much about it, OOIA. And don't worry, I am working on something right now, and I do have some artwork up in the Art Section that didn't get very much attention.

Also, if you search around for Mystics, you can find quite a bit of screenshots. Scrapped project however. Some day... some day.

You mean HAM? I think that looks cool.

Well, seeing how he posted a link to his "I'm working on HAM" thread, we can only assume that it is HAM.
Also, what are you worrying about anyway, Jack? There'll be plenty of people to hang around and play your game when it comes out. Good luck with that.
We should have a thread with people discussing their current and upcoming projects, just to see how much OHRing activity is going on.

Hmm, I would assume at this point, we're talking about my current game, Bloodlust, and I can't argue that I haven't really given out much info on it. I don't want to really reveal the story much, but other things I wouldn't mind, and my level down system thread in game design involving this game got some good replies...

I guess whoever is working on OHR games still as of this time should be more active in a helpful way (which I'll start to try and do), and people who don't make em but play em could be more helpful by giving critique and comments.

Twinhamster - Thank you for the clarification. I'll make sure to keep the advertising to something worth looking over, and I'm going to go see if I can advertise some more of my game and make it worthwhile.
