I don't know what it takes to be a moderator, but given certain privleges, I would have the time to take care of such issues, at least deleting fake accounts and the like. It doesn't seem to me that most of the admins are around all that much, and they probably don't have as much free time as others, but I wouldn't know truely.

Fenrir is the only moderator I see here regularly, and he's just the art forum mod. I don't know if his abilities are restricted only to that area, but if so he should definitely be made into a global mod because he actually comes here and does things.

Setu is still listed as the music forum mod but I believe he quit his admin position some time ago.

Giz is and has for a long time been a troll. That he hasn't been permanently banned yet after so many outbursts of stupidity is a terrible mistake. Temp-banning him time and time again hasn't helped yet and it never will.

Iblis - It's true, all I can realistically do is remove, edit, and split other users' posts and topics, which I've rarely done. For the most part, you guys handle yourselves pretty well in the art forum (with few exceptions) and until the time actually comes around when I need admin or full moderator status, I really don't need any further power or ability. Simply put, what I have is sufficient enough to do my job. I only hope that I'm doing it well enough.

Truthfully, I have no idea who is actually still on the administrative staff anymore. Inferior Minion is, of course, and I know Setu comes in now and then and does stuff. I'm also sure Squall and Cube are as well, and I think Orchard-L still does stuff behind the scenes, but truthfully I don't know exactly what they're doing at any given time. The last I checked, Orchard had given up the position, but still retains his status as a backup - which is fine and it does give some peace of mind that there's a backup. I could have swore that Machu and Shadowiii still had admin too? I also just realized that Misteroo still has Admin too >:3

Onlyoneinall - there's no rule of thumb, but for the most part you have to show you're capable of being fair and show you're more or less mature in your posting and actions. Also, you have to make the case to the other Admins. Right now, you've still got a ways to go, but as a suggestion, you should encourage good posting by the newer members and be a good OHR community member in the eyes of others. Those aren't the only qualifications of course, but they don't hurt.

PHC - If it's Giz's intention to be banned, he'll find a way. I don't like the idea of people going out of their way to do so, but if that's his choice, there's not much I can do to dissuade him from it. On the other hand, he shouldn't go out of his way to attract attention the way he does. I'd actually like to know what he was like on Zant and beforehand too.

As for Fyre's reasons for locking his topic, he's right, and the truth is he's going to be flamed no matter what he posts. Even if he goes out of his way and makes the best post ever, someone will still find a way to flame him. Things like that are the reason most people left CP, and that a lot of the old timers are coming back and picking up right where they left off with kicking people around is a shame and a disgrace. I don't care how long it's been since their old grudges started up, but they fact they haven't dropped them shows a degree of immaturity and stupidity that a lot of Newbies don't even possess. And that's saying something.

it's not really like that fen. it's that, no one ever took fyre seriously. no one is going to take him seriously now. of course he's the butt of everyone's jokes. he's the most fun to mess with because he gets the most angry about it.

i never really left cp because it was about kicking people around. i just got bored of the forums. no one ever posts about games anymore(and i got tired of the ohr, but i don't think much people on cp even use it). from seeing posts lately, people who shouldn't be here are still here, like leroy leo.

i don't really think there were ever even any mods long ago. you should just look through my posts. i was a stupid cunt! no one ever cared.

other than that, i guess i agree with phc, only i wonder why anyone expects cp to be about actual game discussion.

What I would like to see is a reciprocality-minded community, but what's really at work is a popularity contest, an image which fits better in a job or, dare I say, high school. I'm nearing the realm of fed up myself. I'd be gone already if I didn't think there were at least a few worthy members around.

I don't see how any of you are surprised though. This is what happens to every community. Pretty soon it'll be garbage in, garbage out.

OOIA: A while back I considered asking for moderator status, but I just don't know. If it's for popularity, or to have some grand title of respect, forget about it. Being a leader in the community only draws more focus to your faults, unless you truly have a handle on your outward appearance. Good luck on that anyhow. Odds are john doesn't see a need for extra people.

What are you talking about? The first OHR bookclub discussion yielded a 5 page long topic on the Sword of Jade, and the discussion about choosing the next one is just as long. Sure, there's dumb shit forum drama that goes on, but where does that not happen? The point is, there are most definitely people here still using the OHR, and talking about OHR games.

(Sorry to threadjack, but I just don't understand why people post about the death of CP all the time)

First off, the list of admins:

  • Myself
  • Cube
  • Squall
  • Shadowiii

Setu, Machu, and Orchard resigned.

As far as activity goes, Cube and I constantly discuss CP issues and endeavors. You may not notice him, but he does check the site daily. Shadowiii checks in occassionally, and I haven't seen Squall on the boards in a long while. I read every post and try to check the site periodically throughout the day.

When it comes to moderation, I always give the user the benefit of the doubt, I don't feel banning (especially permanent banning) is an adequate solution, and I don't see the harm in the occassional off topic thread. Yes, some users need to be reminded what forum etiquette is and how far is too far, however, they tend to add more to the site than the occassional drama hinders it.

Giz falls into that last part quite frequently, and his lack of a permanent ban has been questioned by a few users. Quite frankly, I feel Giz is an excellent user. He takes full advantage of what the site offers and is genuinely concerned about the current and future state of the site. His grudge against Fyre becomes an issue every so often and there are times when his creativity could have been better focused on something other than new threads, but when he is being serious, he generates excellent reads and thought provoking discussion.

I feel Fen has hit the nail on the head with his take on the replies Fyre received in Chenzi's FB Networking thread. I feel that had TMC posted the same reply, the post would not have been interpreted as an "I thought of it first" response to Chenzi's initial idea.

Fyre did offer to moderate, though. And in reading responses, there are quite a few different takes on who and how to moderate. I'm more than willing to appoint a few global moderators. Since I know my decision in this matter will be questioned, I'm not going to choose. Instead, we're going to hold open discussion on all potential moderators. I'm not going to leave it up to a simple vote, as it becomes less of a qualification issue and more of a popularity contest. If you feel yourself or another user would make a good global moderator, start a topic in the What would you like to see? forum with the subject "Potential Mod: Username". Nominated users can reject the nomination at any time, thereby ending discussion. Flaming will be taken very seriously in these threads and you will be banned until all discussion ends and the global moderators have been appointed if you delve into personal attacks (meaning you will have no say in who is appointed). The point of the threads are to discuss why the user would or wouldn't make a good moderator. The hope is that the community comes to an agreement on who moderates. I haven't decided at what point a potential user would be extended the offer to moderate or how many moderators in total because I feel these decisions are heavily based on how discussion goes and how many potential moderators are nominated.

Final note, you are nominating users for global moderation positions. They will have the power to lock threads, delete threads, move threads, and edit posts in all public forums (not journals). They will not be made administrators and will not have the power to ban. Also, current moderators hold more weight on their current forums. If someone is made a global mod and Fenrir takes issue with that person's moderation of the Art Forum, Fen's request to remove their Art Forum moderation priviledges would be immediately accepted.

You are nowhere near level-headed enough to moderate a forum, so that's fine. We don't need a mod who harasses someone for their gender and enjoys post-count whoring threads.

Hmm?... Perhaps you're referring to someone else?

He's referring to your "HOLY SHIT A GIRL" comment, and how you enjoyed Giz's too often off-topic posting.

*The exaggeration put on a half assed comment is stunning. I believe I said: "Holy shit! Hi!!" because I hadn't seen her post anything in such a long time, and then I said: "nah, you disappeared a little after I joined CP, and since then, we've been lacking in the cute gamer department." Uh oh! Did call her cute?! *gasp* Jesus, is this junior high?

*I only publicly endorsed giz's 2001st post scheme; not only did it get lots of people in on something for once, it was entertaining, comments and all.

Any other complaints\exaggerations, even though I've already plainly stated I don't care at all for the job? Razz

Fuck it, while we're at it, let's engage in a huge twisting of words.

Good gosh, people. Artimus Bena is right in saying that we don't have any lookers here. If any of us were good looking, I'm sure that most would find something for good-looking-people to do. Like leave their parents' basement.

This is a game design community, but this section of it is also the journals. He could really post whatever he feels. I don't see the need to flame him just for the few words he said that were seemingly horribly twisted. There's no clear-set rules as to how to act in a game design community, or even just these journals alone. IM brought these forums up to be very liberal. Your morals are not the same as his, and no one has to follow the same mentality.
