I'm a bit stuck on ideas for Knights of Pudora at the moment. :| (for those who don't know, it's a game I'm working on) If anybody has any ideas they are willing to share, please tell me about it. Thanks!

I currently have the Castle of Pudora, Town of Pudora, the South Caves, and part of the town of Tzakul sketched out. You recieve a quest from the king to defeat the demon king, and you must have an item called the "Hero's emblem" in order to progress the game. The emblem is found in the south caves. I'm stuck on ideas on what kind of plot there should be in Tzakul.

Who is the demon king, and why do we want to defeat him?

Why?

I'm not saying that having the character need an emblem is bad, or that fighting a "demon king" is not a good choice (It is fairly cliche, but it could be done well.) But if you can answer those question, you'll probably be on your way to creating a coherent plot.

The character need to defeat the demonking becuase the world is in turmoil, and the demon king has rose, and is trying to seize this oppurtunity and take over the world. (not really original, but that's what most RPG's are)
You cannot enter Tzakul because they are very defensive towards different races, but the elder needs a hero to complete a quest for him, which is where I'm stuck on.

On regards to who the demon king is, I don't have a whole lot of plans, but here is what I have of now.
Name: Sgavit (may change)
In the far past, the Demon King and his minions had rule of the world, and eliminated all light and hope from the world. He was at strong power until some brave warriors managed to take him down, and sealed him into a sphere. Someone has now broken the seal, thus Sgavit is at power again.

Sorry, I wasn't specific enough on what I was stuck on. Even though that page can be useful, I'm more looking for plot.

Don't settle for the cliche just because everyone else is doing it. Is that what you really want to do? Is that going to be the best for your story?

What's happening in the world? This should help inform this decision. A mistake would be to give the hero (the player) a menial task (fetch quest) that has zero relevance to the plot. It would be smart to use situations like this to develop something plot-wise, thus there's no down time in your storyline, and the audience doesn't feel any lag.

Also, why are they defensive against different races? (The audience will want to know this.) Can that play into the main story?

Who did it? Are they part of the plot? (I highly recommend it. Some random person unleashing an evil demon for no real reason just doesn't make any sense.) Why does Sgavit want power so badly that he/she/it goes to the length of wreaking havoc on the world?

My original KOP I was building before I installed ubuntu, there was a worse plot. The character had to get items back from thieves. Not a good plot. I decided to make defeating Sgavit my main plot, at my own intent. I'm not a really good plot maker, and that was my best idea.
Tzakul is defensive towards other races because they have no allies in the world (it's in warfare condition, like 1500-1600 Japan) and don't trust other countries entering their town. (i.e. they may be spies) The elder needs a hero to lead the soldiers of Tzakul just in case there is an attack, as no one else has the ability to do so.
I still don't know who unsealed Sgavit, but he will have an important role in the plot. Also, Sgavit's rise to power and the world at turmoil are totally unrelated, just Sgavit was released at the wrong time.

It seems a bit disingenuous to have a place that has been so distrusting to others to just up and let some random people take control of their military. How exactly do you plan on doing this?

Has Tzakul been threatened, which is why they are clambering to bolster their defenses? Perhaps the elder is part of a council who sees the hero(es) in combat and attempts to persuade the others that he is fit to win whatever war they are in. Or maybe there is a shift in power, and the new elder wishes to change the old ways. I think there's many ways to make this work without just having an elder say, "You! Yeah, you! Come here! I don't like strangers, but you need to run my military!"

Well, then why is the world at turmoil? Will this be resolved at the end of the story? Is/are the hero(es) going to resolve it?

And, tons of RPGs (and many stories in general, for that matter) will have a main evil figure that just comes to be evil just because they want power, but I think it's a more interesting approach to find out why your main enemy wants power so badly that he's willing to kill others for it. It makes your villains much more three-dimensional.
