I need an opinion other than my own. Ha ha ha!
http://www.castleparadox.com/search-userssongs.php?u=338.

Look for EON: Tup's Epic, Tup's Festival, Battles 1, 2, and 3, Tutahnrah, and DM: Solemn Setting (Creepy song).

Yeah, they aren't gonna' knock your socks off, but I am really curious to see some ratings in these.

PS: I'll unannounce this once I get some responses.

You'd be doing me a great favor.
Hopefully more people will find the time to rate the songs on the song list...
Also, I downloaded the OHR again after a few years of not using it. I'm going to download your game and the 8bit contest entry games and see if I can give yas some ratings. Happy
An eye for an eye.

I couldn't agree with you more. I've been trying to make it a point to listen and rate as much as possible lately. It's just that some of those files take forever to download...
I'll look up your songs and rate them next chance I get.

Oh yeah. The Mp3s take FOREVER. I know from experience.
Maybe just go through the Midis first and do the MP3s later? I know for a fact that I don't have a single Mp3 file in my own list of music. Aside from the MP3s Setu made, most of them aren't that big a deal. I highly suggest everyone downloads SetuFirestorm's though. They are great.

My personal tip would be begin downloading the MP3 and listen to the MIDIs while you wait. Pay attention to the download progress, because when it gets to about 80 or 90% you might want to pause it until the song you're listening to is done. A lot of the MIDIs are only a minute or less in length, so you can probably listen to three or four before an Mp3 is finished downloading. Wink
I also would recommend having headache medicine and a cup of water on hand and you'll see why I say that.

Alright man, I hope you are ready because I took notes. First off, I am mad impressed by the level of your work. You obviously understand music theory and that is a GOOD thing. Okay... *deep breath*

1)DM Solemn: This was tied for my favorite of your tracks. The melody was haunting and I especially liked the percussion work. The timpani was placed perfectly and the way the cymbal started soft and rose in volume really added to the building of tension. Great.

2)Tup Festival: This was my other favorite. It was the ying to Solemn's yang. The way the rhythm track was set up gave it this very whimsical quality and the counter melody fit in perfectly. Fun track but in a kick-ass sort of way.

3)Tup Epic: I liked the composition of this track, but the horns just really didn't do it for me. All I kept thinking was "strings." The brass made it feel like a cash-cow summer blockbuster, where as if the same music was played by a string section, it would be an epic Academy Award winner. It's like The Godfather - except with Rob Schneider instead of Brando. (Yes, I CAN beat a lame metaphor into the ground!)

4)Tutahnrah: This track has great potential. For the first 15 seconds it keeps building and building until it reaches climax and then... it's kind of a let down. I want more drums and cymbals crashing and then bring me back down. It's like there are 4 to 8 bars missing, you know? I really like the build of the hi-hat and chimes mixed with the woodblock-type-sound, but it has to lead me somewhere bigger.

5)The Battle(s): I think if you combined all of the battle themes together, you would get 1 really kick-ass track. I really like the tension of 2. I really like the melody of 1. And finally, I really like the drums on 3. If you could somehow take all of those individual elements and mash them all together, you would have a battle theme to... battle to?

Sorry if I was a little long-winded, but you obviously put a lot of effort into these tracks and the least I could do is put a little effort into my feedback.

Not long winded at all. It makes me very happy to get a well written critique of my work.
I agree with you for the most part. In fact, I really can't find anything that I don't agree with. A lot of these songs are still in the making, so hopefully the complete versions will be great.

The really funny thing is I barely know a thing about music theory. I know the key signatures, the tempo stuff and the notes, but don't ask me about anything fancy or you'll get a dumb look.

Did you check out my two newest works in progress?
I'd be very interested to get your take on these, then I'll leave ya alone. lol!

1.

2.
http://www.geocities.com/shawn_john666/EONOST/WickedWoodsBattle.mid

The second one slows to a march in the middle and the recovery back into the "charge", the accellerando, if you will, was intended to be sloppy.
They sound MUCH better played on media player than they do on Quicktime. I mean, YUCK... Quicktime blows.

I use WMP so I got the good quality. I will listen to those other tracks later today (I am at work now.) I did listen to some of your other tracks, though, and rated them. There was one song that had like five different versions. I forget the name, but I liked the one that said "Band Version" (or something like that) the best.

The best version of that song is the DM: Ballad of the End.
The band version is a little unbalanced in my opinion.
I don't know how to delete songs from the list or I'd get rid of the other two Ballad of the end versions.
