my take is it was made as an adaptation of D&D;s dice roll for encounters. Mere hypothesis there, but I think it makes sense. It was interesting for the first game, but clearly, computer and console rpgs evolve in such a different manner than pen and paper that randomness in encounters is pissing you off. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks they suck though Happy I remember making only one game with random battles (Magnus 13 for those who recall?) and I hated that XD
