Review # 6 for Shadowiii
Them's Fightin' Words
Remember that old skiing game? Yeah, the one where you went around flags, jumpped off of snowdrifts, hit trees and, if you went too far past the finish line, got eaten by the Abominable Snowman who looked like a deranged robot? Well, this game is for you! Using the same style of Endless Saga's little 'mini-game avalanche,' this is a spiffy little game where you snowboard down a hill (on a snowboard, DUH) while trying not to get your tiny little body crushed under tons of approaching snowballs. Fun!
Graphics
If you read Squall's review, then you've probably heard what I'm going to say. The graphics fit for a game that would be an RPG, with the mountainous rocks on the side and the gradiant snowballs and the little details like marks in the snow and all that stuff. Heck, even the NPC of the snowboarder is Super-Deformed. But this just doesn't fit the style of game. This is kinda an arcade game, not an RPG, so the graphics kinda don't match. The good part about them, though, is that it is very clear to see what is points and what is not. The graphics, even though they didn't seem to match, didn't conflict with the game too much.
Storyline
ONE OF THE BEST STORIES I'VE EVER SEEN. MATCHES GREATS LIKE WALTHROS AND ENDS OF THE EARTH.

...

Seriously, there isn't one. But we dont' WANT one, do we? JUST SAVE THE GUY AND HURRY UP!

Gameplay
Ok, I'll admit, I was actually addicted to this game for a while. It's true, it is really fun. Basically there are a few 'rules.'

First, you are trying to not hit rocks and TO pick up spiffy multi-colored coins on the hill. Coins are worth different points, so if you take the break-neck route you'll probaby get more points then if you take the grandma path. There are also weird paths and stuff that lead to high-value coins, and you can always check your score on the lower right of the screen. Spiffy.

Also these giant snowballs seem bent on hitting you. It appears you pissed off the snowball mafia and they are here for revenge, so you'll basically have to haul to escape. They kinda appear randomly and you'll have to go left and right to dodge them, which is pretty tough. This aspect isn't very wonderful. If you could somehow speed up the game by pressing 'down' and thus avoid giant snowball encounters the game would be much better.

Also, since this IS an OHR game, reaction time from the keyboard to the computer to game.exe to the rpg file to your screen is a bit laggy. You'll have to get used to waiting a milisecond for your snowboarding dude to shift over a square. It is annoying at first, but easy to get used too.

  Battle
In every battle between the snowboarder and a rock, cliff, or snowball, he loses. HOW UNBALANCED IS THAT?! ;)
  Map Design
The courses were spiffy spiffy. They got difficult as you progressed, which was a good thing. There weren't very many, sadly, so the game ended fast.
  Balance
The snowboarder has excellent balance. He managed to stay on his board even when I told him to haul to the left. He must be pro or something.
Music
When I played this, my speakers were 'out of comission' so I couldn't hear the music. That was kinda good thing, because I had to concentrate to win, and if the music had been annoying...ARGH.
Enjoyment
I really had fun with this game. I played it for a while, died a LOT at first, but when I figured it out it was actually a pretty addicting game. I played it through a few times then deleted it, but it was a GOOD few times.
Final Blows
Overall, this is a fun game. If you like these kinds of games, you'll probably want to play this through a few times. You can also play it to see what kinds of minigames you can pull off in the OHR. Worth the download, then you'll delete it.

Final Scores
Graphics: 6.5/10.0
Well drawn, but since all the beautiful stuff was gone in a flash as I roared past on my 'board, doing all that extra work was kinda useless.
Storyline: 5/10.0
There wasn't one, and it didn't need one. So it all worked out just fine and dandy.
Gameplay: 9.5/10.0
I enjoyed the gameplay a lot. Clunky and annoying at the beginning, it soon got terribly addicting. I only wish there were more levels.
Music: 1/10.0
N/A (disregard score)
Enjoyment: 9/10.0
I had a ton of fun, especially with some little game that djfenix just churned out in his spair time. If this were altered to look more like an old arcade game, maybe with a high score and different graphics, it would flat out rock.
Overall Grade: C
Final Thoughts
Where is the robot-snowman who eats you? Oh that only happens to you when you SKI. Gotcah.
