Review # 54 for Chaos Nyte
Them's Fightin' Words
A unique take on the RPG, only one that goes horribly, horribly wrong. It's not that Riot is a bad game persay, but the huge amount of problems this game has is undeniable. It starts off bad, with the beginning statement of " All characters, music, and graphics are copy right of 4 of Mind Production." Then right below it is two of the characters from Lufia 2, with different palettes. The problem with this statement is that Riot doesn't have ANY original music, and very little in the way of original graphics. You can't copyright something you've stolen. I've got a bad feeling this is the kind of author who will flame me for telling the true about his awful game.

Storyline: The story starts off with a mysterious high ranking person telling a guard to hold off on a attack. It's suppose to be vague I guess. The first thing you'll notice in the game is the horrible spelling and grammar errors. This is really quite unforgivable. The occasional spelling mistake is fine, but it's obvious that the author saw these problems and did nothing to correct them. The game then switches over to the hero of the game, a young man named Lumeia Riot. He goes out to see his friend Leon, whose wandering pointlessly around the town of Dirland. He then tells you that Fak in the town of Crisila has a job for you. So you walk east down a pointless little path to Crisila. Why the towns are so close together I have no idea. The townspeople in both towns are amazingly banal, uttering the phrase, "Hello." every time you talk to them. I feel stupider from playing this. Anyway, after giving Fak some armor you were suppose to get for him, (Equip it anyway, it's free armor, and Fak won't take it then.) he sends you out to collect taxes. Now you don't ACTUALLY collect taxes. You just talk to one person, get his taxes and that's it. Lame. You then head home, and for whatever reason, Leon comes home with you, and takes the other room, leaving Riot's poor parents stuck in the living room for the night.. (Did I mention Riot's Dad just says "Hello"?) The next morning Riot and Leon head to diner and get breakfast, only to realize they don't have enough money to pay for it. So their forced to "clean" dishes. This sounds interesting, but trust me, it's not. Then they visit Fak again and, play detective around town looking for a thief who stole from the local weapon store. And for whatever reason, the evidence points to Leon, whose arrested and taken away. The scene suddenly switches with Riot waking up in bed with no memory of the events. This is where the demo ends. Awful dialogue through out. Total time- 10 Minutes.

Graphics: Unlike other engines, OHRer's pride themselves on being able to make their own graphics. 4 Of A Mind obviously didn't realize this, and rips almost all his graphics. I really have no choice but to give him a 1, since from what little graphic work he did himself, you can tell that he's just lazy, and could of done decent graphics himself.

Gameplay: The towns are designed small and poorly. In Dirland, instead of shrinking the map to fit the town, he filled the whole south area with blue. There is only one battle in the game which only seems tough until you realize that Leon has every spell in the game. The only thing is that you don't want to fight Terry, since his appearance in your team screws up the game even more, since he follows Riot everywhere. (Including bed.) The actual gameplay of getting different jobs would of been interesting, but it's executed in a boring and predictable manner.

Music: Ripped from popular games, and isn't to bad, but the real problem occurs when you go open a treasure chest or go to sleep. The sound effects from these acts keep repeating until you exit town. Since there barely one second tracks, repeating over and over again, you'll want to scream at your monitor and turn off the sound.
Final Scores
Graphics: 1/10.0
Ripping graphics is for the lazy, and it's always wrong.
Storyline: 2/10.0
Unique, but done in such a poor manner that it's painful to play.
Gameplay: 2/10.0
Again, it's unique, but no fun.
Music: 1/10.0
Gah. Playtest your game, doofus.
Overall Grade: F-
Final Thoughts
Stay clear of this one folks, it's a wreck of tag errors, poor spelling, and uninteresting gameplay.
