Review # 18 for Aethereal
Them's Fightin' Words
Lock Pickens decides to head into King Wally's castle and steal his jewels. However, he runs into a few hitches along the way, namely the fact that his castle is very, very big, and there's lots of fighting (of which he doesn't do very well), but I digress. This game was made for the 168 Hour Contest, and it is quite good, to say the least. Unlike many games, it doesn't keep you bored with some of the interesting events and a little FMV, and the mini-games! Um, anyway...on with the review.

Graphics for this game are decent in some areas and not-so-good in others. Battle graphics are basically copies of walkabout graphics, with swords bigger than the characters (no, seriously). The walkabouts aren't all that great, but they get the job done nonetheless. The battle graphics are nicely animated, dispite their tiny size and simplicity. Maptiles look decent as well. This game's graphics can be compared to Walthros': they're not the best, but they fit the game very, very well.

The music is ripped from several games, but at least Heather Mizuno picked good music to rip and placed it very well (especially the music in the first puzzle floor ;)

The Storyline is adequate, quite simply, Lock Pickens (yeah, you heard me right) decides to enter Wally's Castle and steal his jewels. He runs into a few hitches on the way, and meets a girl named Jill who eventually gets him intertwined in a short adventure that goes slightly farther than just getting jewels. Not much farther, though.

Gameplay is where this game shines. Heather is very creative in making up some fun mini-games. Battles are few in this game, with no random fights, making the two bosses in this game a bit tougher, but not much. The minigames are well-designed and seem to be bug free, and they keep the player entertained. Very nice job.

If you have time to kill and want to check out a decent game with puzzles aplenty and an interesting twist nearing the end of the game (I won't spoil it), then you should check out this game. Even if you don't like puzzles, check it out anyway and see. A longer version of this game could be the next Lufia 2 (as far as puzzles :) And now, onto the scores.
Final Scores
Graphics: 5/10.0
The graphics aren't the best I've seen, nor are they the worst, but they get the job done and fit the game well.
Storyline: 6.5/10.0
This game has a decent storyline. However...
Gameplay: 9.5/10.0
...this is where the game REALLY shines. Very nice, fun, and sometimes tough minigames make this game one of the more fun on the OHR.
Music: 7.5/10.0
Excellent job. The music is ripped, but ripped and placed well.
Overall Grade: B
Final Thoughts
This is quite a good game that is definitely worth checking out, especially if you like Lufia.
