Review # 4 for sephy99
Them's Fightin' Words
I'd like to start by saying that I have never seen Star Trek or know of anything Star Trek related. So, in rating this I assume that Taeloz has NOT taken characters (specifically that is) from the Star Trek universe. Ok, lets begin then! The story of Star Trek: Alternate Reality is as follows, Captain Taeloz's ship has been struck by a Anomoly (whatever that might be is beyond me, I assume it is space debris.) With this, his entire ship is some how sucked into an alternate reality... but, the ship isn't anywhere to be found and the same goes for his crew. Sounds interesting, right? Well... not really...

Graphics: Hmm... the graphics arn't terrible to say the least, I mean... I've seen worse. However, I noticed while playing that there are almost no women in this game. This made me think "how odd... maybe he just hates women." However, with closer inspection I realized that every walkabout is clearly Taeloz's shape and just a sort of recolor. In fact, the one woman I saw in the game had the same shape and I had trouble telling whether it was a woman or a man with long hair (I am being VERY serious here.) As for the maptiles, they range from ugly to average... depending on the place. And the battle graphics are nothing spectacular to look at (as a side note: In battle Taeloz's foot changes color when he walks... the author might want to fix this) Soo... graphics are really a mixed bag.

Music: Well, what can I say about this... I am almost possitive it is all ripped from something. But, because I don't count off for music I won't penalize for this. The only reason it didn't get a better score was some of the music got very annoying very fast.

Storyline: Now, this is the one place that Star Trek: AR might have been saved by IF the story was fleshed out a bit better. I found the entire story a bit stimulating at some points, but that was about 5 minutes out of at least and hour and a half of playing time. Might I add that that hour and a half was SOOO boring I almost ripped out my eyes. The main reason for this is there are almost no interesting little plotscripts, and the majority of the game is just you walking around and talking to the same walkabouts with repaints. Also, I won't count off for this but it seems that once I took control of the woman (can't remember her name) and I fought the space ship... I couldn't do anything but wander around. The reason I am leaving this without penalty is simply because I am not sure whether it is Game.exe's fault, my fault, or the fault of the producer. Also, it would have helped SO much if you (you being Taeloz) had gone into more detail. For example: The time space shift had been hurled into the future by a human who wished for help (you know... not just... you go to the future... now fight people)

Gameplay: To me, this is the one thing that is like the glue to any game... you can have the greatest story line in the world, but if you don't have an inovative way to play then it is all for nothing. Sadly, the game plummits here. I don't want to start a game just to be tossed into at least 20 battles (I had to get to level 4) of the EXACT same enemy. I'll add that I had no idea why I was fighting these people other than "they are bad!" I will also note that there was no save point here so the boss could stomp you and make you fight 20 battles over again (as in my first case) Luckly, the second time around I simply used F2 to save state... however, I shouldn't have had to do that. The rest of the game is the boring walk-around-and-talk-to-idiots type of scenario. I really HATE this type of thing. Throw in some sort of creapy man who says something like "I want your body." I mean, DO ANYTHING to make your game fun! And don't be afraid to add a bit of humor into your game, comic relief was even used in Shakespeare's plays... so it can't be too bad!

Well, overall I'd say this wasn't a game I would be willing to play again... EVER. With a lot of time I'm sure it can be fixed, and I'm sure Star Trek fans could get a tad bit more fun out of it. If you are curious, then download it and try the game out. But, don't expect anything grand.
Final Scores
Graphics: 4.5/10.0
This was a mixed bag... but with the awful battle graphics, walkabouts, and the average maptiles... I can't give it any better.
Storyline: 5.5/10.0
Could be better... with a great deal of detail, and no more situations like "fight then because they are bad!!!"
Gameplay: 4.5/10.0
GAHHHHH!!! So many boring momments I am surprised I even lasted the amount of time I did. Taeloz- FIX THIS FAST!
Music: 7.5/10.0
Not terrible, but nothing grand (note that I don't count off for ripped but I do add points for GOOD original)
Overall Grade: C
Final Thoughts
Not a game that is extremely bad, but not a game that is worth my time. With a little work it could be good though.
