Review # 34 for Iceman
Them's Fightin' Words
It seems obvious that the game was created by somebody that is into Star Trek, and the game uses some terminology consistant with the Star Trek universe. Star Trek: Alternate Reality begins on a Federation starship that is threatened by an "anomoly". The ship's captain, Taeloz (which happens to be the game's author), finds himself in some odd reality that just doesn't seem right to him. The first thing he wonders is why there are Romulans on a Federation starship.

The first setting, the starship overrun with Romulans, sports many Star Trek type features, including a Holodeck, replicators, the very important bridge true to Star Trek style, and engineering complete with its warp core. Equipment is also true to Star Trek, coming in forms of phazers, disrupter rifles, and blast armor. The music definitely has a Star Trek sound, at least some of which (like the Star Trek theme) actually is of Star Trek origin.

This is actually one of the few OHRRPGCE games that managed to keep my attention for more than a few minutes. While the graphics varied, the story line seemed interesting and the game play definitely seemed worth playing. What I liked right at the beginning was 1) battles are not encountered randomly but rather by running into the enemy walking around on the map, which is rare in RPGs, and 2) the player did more than simply wandering gathering stuff and killing enemies, rather having to methodically do this and that about the ship to get things working and eventually take the ship flying about in search of a planet with dilithium (not sure of the spelling) crystals.
Final Scores
Graphics: 5/10.0
It seems as though effort was put (not everybody tries) into the graphics. Map tiles seem somewhat better than the in battle graphics, though.
Storyline: 10/10.0
I would say that storyline is one of the game's best two aspects, interesting and very Star Trek in style.
Gameplay: 10/10.0
The other best aspect is the gameplay. Many RPGs simply mimic what others have done and end up feeling very "been there, done that". This is somewhat different and actually kept me going at it longer than most others I have tried.
Music: 8.5/10.0
I am not sure about all the tunes, but at least a little is not original. However, the Star Trek music only makes sense in the game, being based in the Star Trek universe.
Overall Grade: B+
Final Thoughts
Overall, I think that this was a pretty good game and worth playing.
