Review # 29 for Dalaran
Them's Fightin' Words
Many people have the skill to be sheepherders, but only a few have what it takes to be called "Sheep Ranchers!"(, or whatever). You goal in "Sheep Rancher" is to herd, I mean ranch, all your sheep into their corral before the time runs out. At your disposal are your wit, your magic landscaping spells, and the ever popular NPC pushability bitset. Not all is wool and mutton in the world of Sheep Rancher, though. You must contend with sharp weeds, and keep the wolves well away from the corral.

"What's so good about ranching sheep (as opposed to say, saving the world from an egomaniacal tyrant)", you ask? "Many things", I say unto you. For one thing, the music is consistent with the environment and nicely upbeat. (It's also consistently ripped...) Thanks to the remarkable programming skills of Moogle1 (and a little coaching from Cody Watts) the game is nearly blemishless even though it obviously is very dependent on plotscripting. The game also seamlessly transists (Note: "transists" is not actually a word.) between the relatively simple puzzles and the "hair-tearingly" hard levels (6, maybe 12, and 14!). Also adding to the fun is the "Cloud" dialogue at the beginning of "advanced" mode (Hilarious!). All of these factors add up to a game that of which King David would have been proud.

Unfortunately, that's not all. The game suffers a bit from lack of variety. The gameplay boils down to "using your magic, get the sheep in the pen and keep the wolf out." The number of graphics is also kind of low. These problems aren't as bad as they sound though. After all, it's a puzzle games, and sometimes puzzle games don't need variety (case in point: Tetris).
Final Scores
Graphics: 3/10.0
They're bad and there isn't much variety, but you're so busy playing the game that you don't notice.
Storyline: 8/10.0
What storyline? There's a hilarious "Cloud talks to himself" dialogue. Does that count? In that case...
Gameplay: 7/10.0
Incredibly playable except for the fact that the spell casting requires button pressing finesse. A little (emphasis on little) low on variety.
Music: 6/10.0
Ripped -2, Appropriately bouncy tunes abound.
Overall Grade: B-
Final Thoughts
If you want to save the world look somewhere else, but if you want to save sheep, this is your game! (puzzle)
