Review # 35 for Chaos Nyte
Them's Fightin' Words
A evil horde of snails, some lazy monkeys, and graphics that bear a more then passing resemblance to Wandering Hamster... The undying wave of newbie games continues, with Monkey Quest!

Storyline: Bob, (the monkey, not the famous hamster) and his homies are hanging out at his house when suddenly Evil Mr. Snail appears! After laughing evilly, he informs the hapless trio that he is going to steal the magical crystal banana! This has a less then dire effect on the heroes, which enrages Mr. Evil Snail enough that he kidnaps your pals! Oh horrors! Now Bob (the monkey) must chase after them! After stocking up on supplies and talking to some of his fellow monkeys in the apply named Monkey Village, Bob heads south to "The Forest" where he finds some rather well scripted treasure chests and has to fight the devil himself!

...well, the devil wannabe anyway. Arriving in Monkey City, Bob finds it's more of a ghost town, with the inhabitants heading for the hills at the thought of Mr. Evil Snail. (Nevermind that the island is far to small to have hills to hide on.) After picking up some gear and doing a little light carjacking, Bob picks up a boat ticket and heads off to Jessica Island! (Named after Mr. Evil Snail's daughter, who has more sense in naming his kids then his own parents did.) Bob bravely fights off some evil snail guards, including a rather tough Mutant one, (Lucky all boss battles can be run away from.) and finds his pal Super Monkey trapped in a boobytrapped room! Oh the humanity! After going through a rather clever puzzle, Bob rescues his pal only so the creator of the game can turn them into Arfenhouse clones and then brutally murder them! Hooray! Er...I mean...darn. He then apologies for Monkey Quest and shows the title screen for a new game he is making called "Runeland Saga". What an ending! A few spelling errors, not too bad.

Graphics: Ripped graphics from Wandering Hamster, some crummy shading, and rather disappointing effort overall. However, nothings to annoying, and the lack of effort isn't seen in tiles. Above average newbie stuff. It could look better, but it won't make you stab your eyes out.

Gameplay: Standard map design, well done first town, boring second town, (why can't I walk in the streets? No cars!) and small dungeons. Interesting final puzzle, which actually makes you think. Battles are tough, and require some thought to win. To bad you can run from all the boss battles. An overall above-par effort.

Music: Well picked out, considering how the creators a newbie. Nothing clashes, and the music is tolerable for background listening.
Final Scores
Graphics: 4/10.0
Monkeys, seen at their most blah.
Storyline: 5/10.0
Tolerable. Not entertaining, but at least it doesn't make you hate monkeys.
Gameplay: 7/10.0
The battles will keep you on your toes, to bad the dungeons are poorly designed.
Music: 5/10.0
Standard stuff, it'll keep you awake, but not much else.
Overall Grade: C
Final Thoughts
If you've got an hour to kill, Monkey Quest will eat up the time. Don't go in expecting a rip-roaring adventure though.
