Review # 22 for Dalaran
Them's Fightin' Words
When they said "Behold the power of cheese" this is not what they meant. (The other snappy intro I came up with? This game is like limburger, it stinks!) This is the story of Cheese Penguin in his quest to, uh... go to random locations in order to, something about, finding the eternal cheese. Along the way you confront the bad people empire (who clearly don't have your best interests at heart.), and are joined by other penguins who flock to your popularity (They join you without a clear reason).

On it's side this game has, the fact that the author knew English. The text boxes were easy to read, and "got to the point" which (is a quality I need to work on ;-) ) doesn't always happen in amateur games.

That's it, that was the high point of the game. Now, let me tell you about the rest of the game. The graphics were very poor. The characters were rendered in a blocky fashion, with no shading or depth. When the characters turned sideways, they were completely flat (and I mean two pixels wide). The music, although successfully ripped from many sources (if that's a good thing?) ,didn't seem to quite fit the situations. Then again, not much would have fit the situations. What music would choose for the part where the heroes dosed up on some type of psychedelic herb which sent them to "the void", an invisible maze where they were tormented by the ghost of an unknown entity? How about the time they "saved" Crystal City? A locale known for not having any native inhabitants, and being very beautiful even though it's impossible to tell by the naked (players) eye? Not only were the locations completely non sequitur; they were mostly reached through the use of magical teleporters that or badly implemented doors (I can never tell). A magical teleporter is what ended my foray into the world of Cheese Penguin, in fact. Let's just say when they call it Lake Uncrossable, (or was it Lake Impassable? Oh, wait, IT'S BOTH at the same time!) they mean it. The plotscripting had errors, but unlike a certain lake it was passable. The storyline on the other hand, well, with any enemy called the "bad people empire" you can sense the kind of storyline you're going to get. The extent of the character development (other than one of your characters being a traitor or allergic to living cheese or something. Once again it's the lake's fault I don't know more.) is the startling discovery (Holy Dragonball Z, Batman!) that Cheese Penguin is actually a "Super Penguin" ala a certain anime series which I will only mention once in this article. Finally, I will mention the gameplay. As when playing many "newbie" games, these certain bits of advice instantly spring to my mind. The most prominent of these is, "Beware the extra hits stat, for it can ruin even a good game if one is not careful." Disclaimer:This author was not "careful" as stated in the last sentence. Okay, so it wasn't that bad, (after all I made it all the way to where the lake stopped me) but in a game where "cheese" is an elemental, it's easy to get confused during the more "fast and furious" battles. That's all I have to say... about that.
Final Scores
Graphics: 2/10.0
His graphics look effortless, and I don't mean that in a good way.
Storyline: 2/10.0
Three words, Bad People Empire. The text boxes were suprisingly readable though.
Gameplay: 3.5/10.0
Why does a shark have five attacks? No, that's not a one-liner. Plenty of variety, but none of the spells seemed to be much stronger than normal attacks.
Music: 4.5/10.0
Ripped, you know what that means. (-2) I've seen better placement, but then again I've seen worse placement too.
Overall Grade: F+
Final Thoughts
Next time I ask you for a favor, remember, I played this game for more than an hour, so you didn't have to. You owe me.
