Review # 15 for Aethereal
Them's Fightin' Words
The Aquarians, who live in water, and the Terrarians, who live on the earth, were at peace. However, like all good mutual peace-loving people, they're now at war. And then you, some soldier who doesn't know his name, awakens in a Terrarian (I think I spelled that right) prison. Now, before I get on with this review, I just have to get one thing off my chest: ha ha ha ha ha! Erm, ok, now with that all said and done...

I only have two good things to say about this game: The maptiles are done well and the plotscripting (of what little there is) isn't buggy. That's it.

You can probably guess that the last paragraph listed the good points. Considering its length, you may realize that this paragraph won't be good. This game is about 1 minute long. It doesn't have any battles at all. Basically all you do is watch an intro, then walk around in a cell, until you get your paper (which, if the .zip didn't include a hint on how to get that to happen, would be almost impossible to figure out), which you read (and only get to see for about 2 seconds) and then...something happens. I dunno, from there the text is so confusing that you have absolutely no clue what happens (I *think* the soldier thinks he's this general guy, and the guard just stupudly believes him). Then your character is some general, who is given four soldiers to command, and he walks outside onto the world map, until he's stopped by an invisible someone yelling that he's not the real general. Nothing happens after that; you get a textbox saying the demo ends and all you can do is walk around. There is no real story, no gameplay whatsoever, and without the hint file included its nearly impossible (you have to talk to someone around 5 times to get new events to trigger). In other words, downloading this is a waste of time (even if it takes you 1 second to download). As a final point, the game has absolutely no music whatsoever, there isn't even a wallmap in the world area, and the game uses lots of cursing (including the F-word, which we know no-one wants to hear). Don't download it.
Final Scores
Graphics: 7/10.0
The walkabouts are very blocky, but the maptiles are very, very well done. One would suspect ripping, but I don't know.
Storyline: 1/10.0
There could have been a good story here, unfortunately the game didn't say anything about it.
Gameplay: 1/10.0
Its non-existant. Literally.
Music: 1/10.0
Music? Hah. There is none.
Overall Grade: F-
Final Thoughts
Either this is just really bad, or it was someone's idea of a joke to submit this for a review. The only good points are its font (which looks like it was ripped from EOTE2) and its FMV logo.
