Review # 1 for KainMinter Being able to steal money early on made it more fun to save up for supplies and equipment.
Them's Fightin' Words
When I first picked up this game, I was skeptical.. a halloween themed rpg just doesnt sound appealing to me. After the first 10 minutes, though I came to realize there was a load of quality here. This is a impressively fun game from start to finish, and no one should pass up playing it.

Graphics
The graphics seem to have been done in MS-Paint, so not the best or shiniest you'll ever see on the OHR. That being said, the graphics in Halloween quest are still great! The art has a certain style that makes the game unique and gives it that halloween feel I'm sure Red was going for. The battle backgrounds and Tile-sets started off wonderful... but towards the latter half of the game you can feel the laziness and the rush to finish the game set in. There are a few areas where the map consits of seemingly 3 or 4 total BG tiles. Besides that, the character, area, and monster designs are well done, stylish, and memorable. All in all, the graphics are pretty good.

Storyline
The games first half has little to no story. Trick or Treating... Theres a house lets explore it randomly... theres Sora, Donald, and Goofy... lets Kill them haplessly. Good stuff though.. I found mindless exploring and leveling is quite enjoyable. ^_^ Later on, though, there is very much diolouge, trying to tie in the main character to this vampire several NPCs started talking about.. I guess the story was pretty decent, but was a little hard to swallow with the jumbled text boxes it brought.

Gameplay
This game is fun. Seriously. Not only fun to go through the dungeons and areas, but actually fun raising my characters and hunting for money. Not many OHR games you can say that about. ^_^

  Battle
Same old OHR Battle... except that the characters differ so much that it makes it fun. I'd use one character to play the theif and raise up some money, and the other two were a damage dealer and a mage. Sounds simple, right, but you'd be suprised how many ohr games fail to make their characters feel so unique from each other. I guess the Intro in this game kinda forced me to recognize each character for who they are and what they do.

  Map Design
Pretty well done. Memorable areas, tolerable travel time, well placed save points. The many Secrets made exploration fun, and the World map towards the end of the game provided a chance to head back anywhere to do some last minute side quests in previous areas. Good stuff.

  Balance
Best balance in a game i've ever seen on the ohr.. period. Starts off easy enough to hit enter constantly to survive battles, slowly progresses in difficulty, ends with difficult but not overbearing enemy enounters. What can I say, this is what a game needs. So many other games I try, I cant event bring myself to play a full hour into because the first area is stupidly hard. Halloween Quest does it right by starting it off easy enough to keep you hooked till the harder battles set in.

Music
Ripped, but good and well placed. Not everyone in the ohr community can write music, so I wont lower a score for ripping it. Especially if its well ripped such as this. But I will have to lower the score a little bit for using X-Files Music. Bad Red! >.<

Enjoyment
HQ is very much enjoyable! The gameplay and progression was done so well, that I stopped playing other games and stopped working on my own to finish it. The graphics and music also enchanced this games pleasant feel.

Final Blows
This is a great OHR game. Good job, Red Maverick Zero. It only had a decent story.. it didn't have amazing plotscripting feats or anything like that.. but I seriously enjoyed HQ very much. I can't stress enough how much i recommend this game if you are an rpg fan.. just.. um... try to ignore the Kingdom hearts characters, Ed from Cowboy Bebop, and for God Sakes Scooby Doo and gang...Scooby doo..! Why..? agh... nevermind.

Yes... recognize these guys? The kingdom hearts crew randomly decides you must die. Who knows why... fun boss battle though.

Final Scores
Graphics: 8.5/10.0
Great, well themed, memorable... even from MS-Paint! Too bad the areas and battle backgrounds quality demenished during the second half..
Storyline: 7.5/10.0
The story was pretty good.. though I felt more enjoyment from the mindless exploration and battles, personally.
Gameplay: 9.5/10.0
I'm only taking off .5 for the holy crap amount of random battles in the were-wolf area. Besides that, this is a well balanced and fun game. Period.
Music: 7.5/10.0
Ripped, but good. ....Except... ... X-files... Sorry Red...
Enjoyment: 10/10.0
Very enjoyable. This will be a classic among OHR RPGs, I'm sure.
Overall Grade: A-
