One day I was playing the gameboy version of Dragon Warrior I: and couple of days later I decided to try to make it for the OHRPGCE.
Neat Idea, hah?

so far here is what I have completed

The world map: completed, except for the linking, due to the incompletion of the caves and towns.
the tantegel town: completed except for the npc placement.
tantegel castle: Started and almost done,
western cave, totally completed, just need to add treasures and doors.

Well hopefully I will release the demo very soon.

Does that mean it won't have the translation of the NES one?

I'm curious to see if the battle system will be the same, or if you're just going for the traditional OHR stuff.

I was concidering remaking Phantasy Star 1, which the style is quite similar to Dragon Warrior. But then I realized that I'd have to make a search command, chat, warp spells... it's all too much for me.

If you're gonna include all those stuff that Dragon Warrior had, then kudos to you!

The battle is going to be the same as ohr, except that it would not have the battle graphics for the hero. its going to be like in the real dragon warrior

I was thinking of also including the stats screen that appears after certain number of seconds. but unless someone knows how to prevent a script from interfering with a normal textboxes, I won't include it.

The problem with that is.... the glowing triangle cursor for when it's a character's turn to fight will still appear, regardless of whether a hero is there or not.

Hmm...true, but if the arrow pointed to a hero graphic that never moved...or just a set backdrop (say, FIGHT!) or something that indicated when your 'time' was ready, you could eliminate that problem.

Bit off topic; but here:

I actually designed (inspired by Herp, must give credit where it's due...) a "Mech" battle system that was pretty cool...battle backdrop was from a cockpit, the mech was in the center, and the hero graphics were actually stuff like 'lazer', 'missiles', etc. When they were destoryed they went 'offline' (offline dead grfx) and....yeah. It actually worked out pretty good.

THE POINT IS it is fixable. If you are creative. Smokin'

You know what? I like it. A lot. This project reminds me of Byako's (did I spell his name right?) Final Fantasy Origins, which was all the rage until FFH came out...Wink

Anyway, My only complaint is the ocean is a much poorer quality than the rest of the maps. I'm assuming its animated? Or no?

Anyway, you've sparked my curiosity. Looks nice!

Coincidentally, Byako's take on FF is apparently a dead project now, since it hasn't updated in over a year or two. Then again, we said the same thing about Sword of Jade, and recently Fyrewulff proved us wrong...

If this materializes into an actual finished game, I'll take a look through it for sure. Not to say I actually like Dragon Warrior whatsoever. Actually i never got into it (damn stairs command). Pack it full of extra sidequests and features the original didn't have, and you should have an OHR classic on your hands.

The graphics look great, with the exception of the hills. Maybe it's just me but I think they look kinda weird.

I was thinking of leaving the ocean the way it is, for the reason that its too much maptiles, if I am no mistaking, its over 15 for only the ocean,

but if you guys want it better, than I will change it in the final release of the game.

right now I am working towards releasing the graphics demo.

and another thing, since all of those maptiles are my original work, I will post them as a public domain. which means that if you wanna use them, you can

by the way, this is going to be my first ever released game for the OHR.
it doesn't of course means that I am new to it, it means I was practicing over a year on the graphics part, and now I finaly got the hang of it
