So, I've been spreading a message around on SlimeSalad about another solo project of mine, aside from Mine / MJohnson's "Doom RPG".

A project of mine, set in a fictional, near-apocalypse time where certain conspiracies are, in fact, realizations. All I've got to show for it so far is a single screenshot, in which the map design will change from a releasable version, since this is just a thing to see how well my map-making can fare.

I'll post more on this soon!

I really like your texturing!

But looking again at the screenshot, I think I might have misread it. Is that a platform around that pit of green fluid? I thought those tiles were walls, because they're heavily textured and bright. But now I see that that walkabout seems to be standing on something which might be a step.

Ah, yes. That's a set of steps right there. I'd figured to make them out of the same kind of material as the flooring above it, since I'd seen some of the texture choices were confusing players in the Doom RPG.

Also, I'm working on the main hubmap now, where you're assigned missions for the game. Trying to figure out how exactly these missions change based on what you've done so far.

Probably something simple and Wing commander-esque in terms of storyline change, but enough to where the player doesn't notice it.

Also, finishing the Rec room / cyberpunkish cafe today.

Yes, it's good to reuse the floor texture on the steps; I'm just complaining that that texture doesn't look much like a floor. Additionally, if they are steps, then they shouldn't cast shadows on the walls next to them, which are actually in front of them (Figure 1a). You probably drew those shadows planning the steps to be in front of the wall (Figure 1b), but this is impossible, because the top and bottom edges of the steps tiles line up with the top and bottom edges of the wall tiles, so I assumed it was a slightly sloped wall instead.

Figure 1: Amusing myself with GrafX2 after a bit of a break from graphics.

Anyway, I'll look forward to the next progress report.

Whoa, what's that? O.o

That definitely is no OHR. xD, or, are we plotting to put in 3D-esque stuff in to the engine ? o.o

Nice bar.

That blue carpet is pretty gridy though. Don't know whether it's intentional.

Ah, no. I actually need to change the color of some of the corner-sprites of it., as well as the tan-square tiling.

Just a carry-over from the Doom RPG, it was. decided to make the texture darker for the game : >

Ah, OK. Also (I hate to complain too much, but) that bright high contrast orange bathroom floor looks pretty ugly in my eyes. If it just wasn't so high-contrast.

It's probably my old CRT monitor. I'll dim it later when I get home. Stuff on my desktop back home seem to be a LOT darker than when I use things on these work computers.

Heh. I actually normally have my monitor set quite dark on purpose (less painful to use at night) but that didn't stop me from complaining, because it's bright relative to nearly everything else.

Raspberry! Someone needs to save up for a cheap LCD monitor. If you take that CRT to a skip, you can probably nab someone's old LCD while you're there. (provided that the way skips work in Wales applies everywhere else in the world...)

I'm not so sure about that. I think cheap LCD monitors have far worse pictures than decent CRT monitors. LCD screens have many different visual artifacts that CRTs just don't have. I'm using an old (yet flatscreen) CRT and it's just perfect for covering unneeded desk space, not to mention doubling as a heater!
