You can download STAR QUEST for free at:

http://8bitcity.blogspot.com/2011/01/star-quest.html

It's 4.4 Megs zipped. My site has all the info and screenshots.

Star Quest is like an RPG. You explore areas, unlock things, play arcade games (you better have some Quarters), and hopefully save the planet. If you look at the screenshots you'll see what the art style is like: most sprites use only 1 color and most map tiles are a single, solid color. Despite these restrictions, I manage to create some awesome areas, dungeons, and worlds to uncover. There are several hours of gameplay, and I know you're going to enjoy this game!

The game features recycled midi and an original track composed for the game by my friend. I used the OHRRPGCE to make Star Quest.

I need to upload it to the database, and I will soon, I'm just too tired.

It's been a blast to work on this thing, and I hope you guys download and enjoy the game! You can post any feedback or questions here, on my blog, or send an email to 8bitcity@gmail.com. This is the Beta 1.0 release, the very first public release of the game.

Let the Star Quest begin! Rock on! [img][/img]

This is an extremely fascinating game.

Well, I'm lost. I've explored the ship, the overhead map up to the dude who won't let me pass the bridge, two tree houses, and the arcade. So far all I've found are some folks who say cryptic things and a few quarters.

With the quarters I can play the arcade games, but they're equally confusing. It seems that evil pac man is just a way to get more quarters? Pink Pain Parade makes no sense... I have to find the gameboi? But the area is tiny and clearly has nothing in it but tons of those pink things.

Racecar Armageddon(?) is huge! I found a guy asking for petroleum, but no petroleum seems to be around. Do I really have to explore this entire map, filled with really long corridors and samey backgrounds?

And the arcade back alley is filled with buildings that are blocked off by locked doors or npcs that won't talk to me...

Haha! The naked space babe makes me think you have been reading Edgar Rice Burroughs novels :)

I haven't had time to play yet, but I love the visual style in the screenshots.

You gotta find that key to get in the first dungeon!

Pink Pain Parade there is one guy you can talk to, don't worry about playing it if you don't like it, you don't have to play the arcades. After the first dungeon, things really open up. Should I make the game easier?

Also, Evil Pac-Man and the in-game sequel have secret exits. But it's definitely a way to get wuarters. After that first dungeon you have access to many more arcades (and actually you have access to more, secret-ish ones) now.

Never read Edgar Burroughs, but I'll check him out. Hope you guys enjoy...

I'm finding the game easy enough so far. You are a genius at creating mini-games and puzzles that rely on NPCs over plotscripting, which gives the game an extremely unique gameplay.

Thanks! I'm glad you're getting some entertainment from it :D

Here is a little mini walkthrough to get you through the first dungeon and really be able to explore the game. Skip it if you want to be challenged:

1. Get the Tree Key, it's green and runs around the starting area of the map. You'll see it eventually.
2. Beat the Tree Dungeon, at the top of the map. You'll need to find a party member trapped inside.
3. Once you have your party member, SAVE on the overworld and go into the area that the red soldier was blocking earlier (the tree root just west of the dungeon door) and fight the Ax Man.

4. Walk across the bridge, get the boat, and explore the entire world!
5. Defeat all bosses to gain access to Skull Castle

Only real questionable thing in the game for me is the travel time on the mountain range, especially for backtracking.

Another spoiler:

There is a way to speed up on the overworld

I released a fix for the arcade game "Space Invasion," it was too hard and you couldn't beat it, which was a shame because it's a fun mini-game.

You can download Beta 1.1 now.

If you already downloaded Star Quest you should update,
your save file will transfer just fine :D

Wow, I love the feel of the game, especially the music, especially that song in Race Car Apocalypse!

I'm still working on it, but it doesn't look like that anymore because isometric movement is currently not available in ohr^^

BTW, Is there a star quest soundtrack collection somewhere?
