Did there not used to be an option to set an attack's target setting to "random focus" or something like this? Is this what "random roulette" means now? I'm almost certain that I had attacks that worked randomly in the past that now always choose the first target.
From what I can tell, attacks that come from a chain still randomly choose their target unless told otherwise, but I also used to have attacks come from a random attack spell list that used to choose their target randomly, and they don't seem to do so any more. Maybe because of the "automatically choose target" bitset (I had this turned on so that the player could not know who the attack was about to target).
When I go to the new "preferred target" area and set it to random, I get the old, desired behavior. But I must imagine that this shouldn't have been necessary. While I like the idea that preferred target being random accomplishes this, backwards compat seems to necessitate some further investigation. Or has no one else experienced anything like this (previously randomized attacks from a random spell list now always target the first available target)? _________________ My first completed OHR game, Tales of the New World:

It wasn't my intention to break backcompat with any old attacks.
Can you describe in detail (or maybe post screenshots of) the settings for the attacks that were previously random, but are now always targeting the first target? |

The attacks in question were focused attacks (the issue occured with both ally-only targetting attacks, and enemy-only targetting attacks). They were "focus", not "random focus". They were also set to automatically choose their target. They were all used in random spell lists. They were all made before the advent of 'preferred targets'.
I'm pretty sure that when I made them, I assumed that a random spell list would operate the same way that an enemy's attack list would. That is to say, even though the targetting says "focus" instead of "random focus" (or "random roulette" as it's called now), the enemy still picks its target at random. I thought that random spell lists would work the same way, and I'm 90% certain that they did at some point. But looking at my attacks now, at some point I started using "random focus" instead of "focus", and I can't imagine why.
The interesting thing is that when attacks are used out of a chain, where no targetting was possible, I'm fairly certain they get randomized. This is because I have an attack that chains to an optional spread attack, and I'm almost positive I've seen it sometimes single target, and sometimes spread target. So if targetting is automatically randomized when a player can't target due to a chain, shouldn't it also automatically randomize when a player can't target due to the "automatically choose target", that is, if there is no preferred target?
EDIT:
okay, I did some quick testing. It appears that if the targetting is set to "focus", then it is not randomized, whether it comes out of a chain or a random spell list or whatever. Again, I believe this was not formerly the case. Now, when the targetting is set to "optional spread", the attack IS randomized coming out of a chain.
I should clear up that I am almost certain that "focus" attacks were randomized coming out of a random spell list with the "automatically choose target" bitset in the past. I am less certain that "focus" attacks were randomized when coming out of a chain. _________________ My first completed OHR game, Tales of the New World:
