This thread is for discussing the current top 5 download lists.

Who promoted Purgatory so far that it gets 84 downloads in 5 days? Or is that some kind of bot?

That's unusual, but not unusual that it's one of Orchard's games.

Also, it seems that the "change from last week" download meters are broken. When did that happen?

Well it's quite unusual for Purgatory. The only Orchard game that had frequent downloads on CP used to be Boundless Ocean for the last some weeks until Missing and Purgatory came out of nowhere as if some random person posted a link to them in a big gamer forum.

Orchard's games are advertised everywhere.
Missing was one of the top Indie adventure games on some site and that gave it massive kudos as well as a big boost to Orchard's reputation.

It's likely that somebody linked to Purgatory in a thread on some other indie games site (probably in a discussion about Boundless Ocean).

Proper advertisement will get you a lot of attention.

A large majority of these new hits are coming from the following links (Note: Given I am currently at the office, I have not clicked these links and am unsure of the content):

What do you mean by this? They seem to be working for me.

I didn't scroll below the fold, but I'm guessing NSFW.

Ewwwwwww Disgusting.... Definitely NSFW :(

Seems to be a site for people with a fetish for the type of image that appears in the final scene of Missing, which is probably why it linked to Missing.

Wow. Now we know where Bloodlust can gain huge popularity... Not a good kind of popularity, but it would likely topple Missing quite easily.

I mean that the top downloads section always looks like:
Code:
1) 84 hits
  +84 Purgatory100% by Friend
2) 47 hits
+47 Missing (fixed version) by Friend
3) 11 hits
+11 Escape from Darkavern by TwinHamster
4) 9 hits
  +9 Final Fantasy H by Fenrir-Lunaris
+9 Boundless Ocean + by Friend

as if they all got 0 downloads last week.

Incidentally, I think that the download graphs are very confusing and not that interesting. They would be a lot easier to read if they showed the last day/hour on one side (currently I need to work out the server's current time and date), and maybe ditched showing total download by day/hour all together. I would rather be able to see downloads over the last 2 weeks or days.

Um TMC, since I rejoined the community Purgatory was NEVER on the Top 5 until now. Missing was only at place 5 if on the top 5 list at all. The only game that is permanently place 1 was Boundless Ocean for the last some weeks unless someone uploading a new game like Fluffy Bunnies and Love.

If I recall right it's usually more like:
1.Boundless Ocean (between 10 and 20 hits)
2.Some new game
3.Some new game
4.*
5.*
* - one of those: FUABMX, Sword of Jade, Missing or Final Fantasy H

But yeah Gurochan explains everything. Chan communities are really powerful (in fact they even go after Scientology these days, if you read the news you might have read about it, it's usually referred to as "Anon vs. Scientology").

Needs more cutscenes for that, though. I mean like pictures where you really see some bodies being torn apart and stuff. Oookay...

Here's a little work in progress I've been playing around with. There are some issues when you get to the end of the year which can result in a repeated date range with no download data, but you should be able to see all weekly intervals. Right now, it does not do any Time Zone shifting. All downloads are counted using the Server's timestamp, which is in PST.

Due to different implementations of the Week of the Year calculation between PHP and MySQL, the week counts are shifted...PHP thinks we are in Week 9 (hence the default page right now) while MySQL insist it is only week 8. The dates shown on the page take this shift into account.

http://www.castleparadox.com/weeklydownloads.php

Download data goes as far back as the 22nd Week of 2005 (Sunday 29th May, 2005 - Saturday 4th June, 2005), although the download stat collection was started June 2nd, 2005.

Oh yeah forgot to mention Barely Legal Bitches in my last post.

I personally think hourly downloads aren't needed at all. Why would somebody want to know if people download his game at 4pm the most? Weekly and monthly (or even over the year) would be way more interesting.

It is interesting because it might show that most people who download his game have free time after 4 pm.

If you're willing to study a year's worth of downloads, then yeah, I guess you could have fun with that.
