I just wondered what convert possilities exist for OHRRPGCE music these days? I remember you could convert MIDI to BAM, but nothing else. Are there other possibilities like MP3 or WAVE to BAM?

You DO know you don't need to use BAM anymore, right?

You can't turn a MP3 or WAV file to BAM format because MP3 and WAV files hold data to recreate a certain recorded sound while BAM, like MIDI, is merely a set of instructions telling the computer how to use a set of preinstalled sounds.

I'm sure it's more technical than that, but that's how I look at it.

There are supposedly programs that will turn MP3's into MIDI files, but these are usually junk. Most of them only work with monophonic lines, and even then, they rarely work well unless the MP3 was created without any background noise.

I believe that any sound file you put into the OHR is translated into an .OGG file.

If you want to turn a .BAM into an MP3 (though I'm not really sure why you would.) you would have to play the BAM file while capturing the sound with something like HardDiskOgg. Most audio editing/recording software will give you the option to capture audio out if your sound card supports it.

But BAM is now ancient, though I believe you can still set up a BAM fallback in case it becomes necessary.

I still prefer BAMs. I've actually entertained thoughts of re-downloading an older version of the OHRRPGCE and playing all the back catalogue of BAM music, then recording it in OGG format.

Personally, I really wish for BAM and MIDI sound effects, which will obviously never happen because I'm just about the only person that would like that.

Maybe there is software that can capture sound as it plays on your computer. A quick google search for "sound capture" brings up some software that claims they can capture sound coming from the sound card, but I don't know if it'll work on Win98 and with BAM.

I've got a microphone, and Audacity does a good job of filtering out background noise.
