They have computer programs to generate those, of course. I'm not sure if they could make one to "decrypt" one, but I can't see them to save my life. _________________

Most of the bots attacking CP never post anything. They just create an account and put spam links in their profile.
I've also noticed some of the bots/spammers posting a spam thread, then a day later editting the post and inserting the spam link. _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

That's not true. Cube and I just delete them on sight so you might not see them. James' post followed a massive spamming of "OMG!!!! <insert celebrity's name here> nude photos HERE!" links which tallied up to about 50 posts. _________________

Does spam even work? I don't know anyone who's actually bought something they found via spam. |
As I've said before, the benefit of spam is not purely to get someone to click a link. Any posted url (given enough time) will be read by a myrad of search engines. Larger numbers of links leading to one site will boost the site's placement in search engine results.
To counter this, many search engines now require that posted links be of a certain age before it finally gets to contribute to a site's ranking. This is why many of the user profiles have urls in them, especially the ones with horridly low post counts. _________________ LJ.Art

You've said this before?
But it makes sense.
Almost... too much sense.
Did you hear the quote by Bill Gates that goes "By 2006, SPAM will be a thing of the past" (said in 2004). _________________ Tower Defense Game |

Yeah, I've mentioned it a couple of times before. It's even alluded (sp?) to in the rules of the Monthly Avatar Contest.
And I generally don't pay attention to what Mr. Gates says. Remember what he said about computer memory? _________________ LJ.Art

Spam: ads and other wastes of messaging services on the internet
SPAM: A brand of luncheon meat
Rinku doesn't know this? _________________ "Everyone has 200,000 bad drawings in them, the sooner you get them out the better."

How 'bout a "report user" button so the real users can actually do something besides bite their tongue/fingers when someone like Gorgonas comes along and posts FIVE FLOCKING URLS in the same post. That way my sig isn't just an idle threat. _________________ LJ.Art

Do you bite your thumb?
Yes, sir, I do.
Do you bite your thumb at me?
No, sir, I just bite my thumb.
What I meant by biting fingers was not replying to a spammer. _________________ LJ.Art
