While thinking some comments made (and rightly so) about the deadness of the OHR community, a new idea for a contest struck me. I call it the Gameathon.
The premise is clean and simple. In a month, make as many games as you can. They can be long, short, team, or solo games. A panel of judges agrees to play at least the first ten minutes of every game (or until the ending, whichever is sooner) and gives it a score of zero (not worth the disk space), one (so-so), or two (good). The winner is the one with the highest total score at the end of the month.
To allow some time for preparation, I propose the contest run from May 10 to June 10. Games released during this period are eligible for the contest, whether or not they were produced before the contest start. A game that has been previously released is not eligible for the contest.
There is no need to sign up, but I am looking for contest judges. (The reason I'm going with judges rather than open voting is that voters tend not to play all of the games.) _________________

1. No, though I think I'll borrow from another contest and say that if you vote higher for your own game than anyone else, your vote is reduced to the highest vote given to that game.
2. I am trying very hard to say no, but a re-release is better than nothing. Let's compromise and say you can get up to one point for a re-release. _________________

1. Ok. I volunteer to be a judge.
2. Ok, that's fair. 'Course, I don't have any games to re-release anyway. _________________ I stand corrected. No rivers ran blood today. At least, none that were caused by us.

I've been subconciously waiting for such a contest for a long time. The last couple of weeks, I've felt restless, and have wanted to blitz the community with tech demos if I could find myself some excuse. Well, that start date is a little after end of my exams, so it's perfect - I'm definitely in. I hope this contest makes a point and is the most productive contest (entry number wise) in OHR history.
I just hope we don't get 50 30 second RPGs.
PS: How does team scoring work? Or do we have to stay in the same team all month? _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great."

Wait, wouldn't this encourage a bunch of people to release a bunch of really shitty games? IE: The thing that this community needs the least? _________________ Allow me to preemptively disclose that I probably hate the person posting below, including myself. |

I volunteer to be a judge.
However, I will not be entering anything, I'm currently too busy with TMC and I's project. _________________ Moogle no longer owes prizes. |

Not really. The games are going to be judged, and to get a high score it actually needs to be good. No sense in making a bunch of crap games if they aren't going to get you anywhere. _________________

TMC: Team scoring is per game. Anyone who is credited for working on the game gets the same number of points. There is no penalty for teaming up.
Chenzi: What Jack said. That's why you can be awarded zero points for a game -- you shouldn't get anything if your game really does suck. Besides, I seem to remember most of the community's crappy games coming from the same era that produced the best ones.
Giz and TMC: Hooray! I hope we get as many entrants as judges. _________________

Heh. I've got a couple games/ideas stewing right now, although I've sworn off the RPG genre forever. _________________ I stand corrected. No rivers ran blood today. At least, none that were caused by us.
