If you're not on LJ, you probably have not heard about my Human Day/Epic Marathon entry (yes, it's for both; yes, I started it after the 10th). It's gotten an overwhelming response from people who say they're not interested in OHR games anymore, so I figure I ought to post a few teasers here, too.
Earthwyrm (and Chasm x 3). Yes, he goes into the hole. Yes, he pops back up in one of the three holes. Yes, if you attack a Chasm, it will kill you. And, yes, it keeps track of his HP -- even when he burrows.
Darkmoor Dungeon is my all-battles game. Each hero has nine spells/abilities plus the standard (and particularly ineffective) Fight command. HP/MP are restored between each battle and you can decide which order to take each battle. It's kind of more of a strategy game than an RPG, since there are no level-ups.
Shroudmage and his Apparitions (plus cameos from Paladin and Berserker). This is the Son of Sun battle, except I think SoS had six targets. I could do up to six, but the battle difficulty is reasonable as it stands. I gave the Apparitions weak attacks and the Shroudmage some pretty nasty ones (Slow2 and Bio). The battle behaves like you'd expect: find the "real" Apparition; everything else counters up all your attacks.
Originally the Sisters were 1000 HP each, but that was a beast of a battle: instead of being a quick kill, the extra 400 HP makes them take several hits even from high-powered spells. Being healers, they often restore most of the damage. I haven't removed that version of the Sisters, though. I'm putting them in a later battle; this is the first "boss" in the game.
This screenshot showcases the battle information window. It gives vitals for any enemies that appear in the battle along with whatever additional info is necessary to understand the challenge. On the right side: battle number (although you don't have to fight them in order), difficulty level (varies greatly by party), and reward (one item per battle).

Awesome! I'm glad to see how it's coming. Amazing that you could implement the battles that way, especially with the worm. A lot of work went into spawning there, I suppose. _________________ Planning Project Blood Summons, an MMORPG which will incinerate all of the others with it's sheer brilliance...

If holding down the spacebar is what gets you going, there are several dozens of games I could recommend. _________________

This timeless classic of my own creation, for instance.
Actually, for all its lack of seriousness, Holdspace is largely responsible for the Windows version of OHR. It was the first time I used the GFX library in FreeBasic, and realised how easily it could be adapted to OHR. Previously, I had been struggling to convert the graphics stuff to C and not really getting anywhere. |

Great game, currently at the battle with Aegis, Blue Aegis and Red Aegis. Very hard, blue goes down easy, but I run out of MP for one of the other two. _________________ ANIME FREAK!!!!!! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL DIS RO><ORS!!!

Hey, looks Nice Moogle1.
Getting those kinda of battles working in the OHR is really fun. Though it's really limiting in some ways, you are free to do a lot more then you'd think if you use your imagination. I'll probably check this one out when you're done with it. |

This caught my eye. What an awesome idea for an OHR battle! Trying to figure out how you could possibly do this had me stumped for a few minutes, but I think I've got an idea how you could have pulled it off now. Very inovative use of the battle engine, Moogle1. :D

I played it a little. Got to the 3 cleric battle and wiped. Tried again with a different setup but wiped even earlier.. well..
didnt wipe really.. broke the ohr instead. lol
It was that 2 orb battle where they cast protect and shell on themselves if you do anything to them. My witch ran out of mp to dispell them so I was hoping to widdle the last one down 1 hp at a time. well, his safe2 kept getting bigger and bigger until he was giving himself over 9000 def boost a turn. Shortly after that the ohr overflowed, crashed, and burned to the ground. I lol'd.
I'll have to try again.. but i dislike starting over :( oh well I;ll grit my teeth and start again from the begining X) |
