I'd like to have the ability to sort games by Genre (ie: RPG, Movie, Platformer, Puzzle, Hentai, etc). Since the OHRRPGCE is no longer a PURE RPG making engine, wouldn't it make sense to be able to list our creations appropriately? It seems more logical to compare Trailblazers and It Came From Beyond The Moon since both are platformers, rather than comparing OHRadius with Hentai Quest, two entirely different styled games with gameplay that is nothing alike. Seriously, Trailblazers may deserve the A+ as a platformer, but it blows as an RPG.[/i] |

Ooh, awesome idea! However, the users who've submitted games will have to go back and add them (perhaps say "Not stated" as default). Otherwise, we'd have to go through and stereotype each entry. Of course, if the user didn't go back and add the genre, they're gonna miss out on hits from genre searches. _________________

We're gonna have a lot of really small genres with one game in it. Such as "not pressing button simulators" _________________ You got film in my video game!

I can think of about 10 categories already covered amoung several popular OHR games....
RPG [MTSA, WH, TSSE, etc][Final Fantasy]
Action Adventure [Smokey McGoo][Zelda, Seiken Densetsu]
Strategy [Sephy's tactical battle engine][Tactics Ogre]
Platformer [Trailblazers][Mario, Rockman, Castlevania]
Shooter [OHRadius][Zero Wing, Gradius]
Puzzle [Sheep Rancher, Break Up, Maze Madness][Tetris, Panel du Pon, Lolo]
Survival Horror [Purgatory, PB][Resident Evil]
Movie [OMGtizRoxors, OHR House][Radical Dreamers (sort of)]
Comedy [Arfenhouse, Walthrus, most of the TCGs][Parodius]
Pr0n [Hentai Quest, BLB][Adult Manga rom] |

I think it should be possible for games to have multiple categories. Some games are movies and humor, some games are puzzle and RPG. I also think we should think in terms of OHR usage instead of existing genres; "custom battles" would be much more open than the 4 or 5 existing genres you've said, which have only one game in some. _________________

Perhaps something similar to a genre meta tag for each game, allowing focused searches of the game database. Each game could have an array of possible genres. _________________ ------

You'll discover this quickly, but until you do: Good idea to check the date on posts before replying. For some reason, some people get upset about revival of old posts. _________________

I could see this being extreamly useful, especially since there are now 650+ games here. why not add a seperate OHR catagory, for games like OHR, .Hack//ohr, ect. |

What do you mean by an 'OHR' category? It is a gamelist for OHRRPGCE games, it's the non-games and soundtracks that have invaded the list, not the other way round. _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

Yeah, this is a sweet idea.
As for the sorting, you could get everyone from now on to submit their game by ticking the box for the category(s) their game goes in. Everyone should also modify their own existing games to show genre, and if they didn't then the community or a group of selected people could sort it for them.
If the game doesn't go in any categories then make one called "other" |

Standard RPG
Joke/Movie
Side Scrollers
No Battles
Other _________________ A broken clock is still right twice a day. |

Or we can just use the 10 categories Fenrir mention. |
