Well, seeing as many people round here dislike the option to customise
their hero to the last pixel, which my game is based on I will write a new
topic.
(btw, I never bother to post source code unless there is demand)
I have a few ideas, many original and here's a few anyway.
If you like them, perhaps you can help me convince James Paige into
getting of his backside and implementing them ( he seems to have his
mind focused on program pest control these days)
Okay here are a few suggestions:
firstly, did anybody ever consider a transparent colour in backdrops?
Imagine the possiblities: fancy text boxes that could be displayed in
game. Large pictures could be made more simple by using this
technique, no more write mapblock. Imagine whole menus using
flashy animations without drwing nearer to an overflow ( due to lots
of npcs running)
How about a little more variablity with the colour schemes of the current
menu options. Textboxes have about 6 different shades of pink, at least
remove some of them for other colours or even patterns. the menu
colour schemes of battles are pathetic, just one colour! A bland green
or blue, wouldn't some importablity be nice?
okay, i'll stop now! but do you see? with just a few different plotscripting
commands and menu options the ohr can be so much more!
So, you might think i'm beginning to be obsessed with customablitiy,
but I think that for those of you play games solely as a form of escapism,
you'll enjoy your experience more (playing or creating) if you could
tailor the game to suit your needs.
for the guy who said customisation is bad because people could call
themselves silly names like:"pooh-head" I have this to say,
My game is designed to "adapt" itself to suit the players ability.
So if the player wanted to be a "pooh-head", and be a rather sad
idividual, then they can do so. My game rewards players for adventuring,
being couragous and winning. It puinshesses for dishonesty, cowardlyness
and losing. The kind of player who acts like that, wouldn't get far in my
game I assure you!
Finally! besides from blabbering on about plotscipting I am actually quite
at it. When I have time I will take a good look at your P.I.D's (plotscripters in distress, stupid I know) and lend a hand.
The other day I helped Democratic anarchist with his pong game. Bye! _________________ ~PH

If you want to help people that's fine, but this topic doesn't really have anything to do WITH anything. We all like the OHR they way it is, and scripting flashy looking menus isn't worth it. Instead of working on something that doesn't REALLY need to be worked on, most of us would spend time on making the game have better gameplay, or story, or graphics... Or whatever. You know... Stuff that makes GAMES good games. If your game has a lame story, crappy gameplay and not too hot graphics, a flashy menu and customisable character names isn't going to save it.
Anyhow, I'm going to close this AGAIN, because it's not helping anyone in any way. If you want to help people with plotscripting problems then great, but posts like this don't entirely help anyone because it's just a bunch of suggestions with slight talk about plotscripting. All I'm really seeing in your posts is "Hey, look what I can do! Think you can do it too? You should, since it's really cool, just 'cause I said so!".
And just for the record, making custom menus and text boxes would likely be easier just programming the game from scratch in something like C++. If people were really concerned about they way their games looked, they'd just program it all themselves. |
