...why not make a community favorites game list?
You know, the classics...
FUABM:X, Crecent Dream, Stop, Wandering Hamster, Arfenhouse, City of Dreams, Monterey Penguin, Genesis, Wingedmene, Super Concentration Headache Master Pro, Memoria, Pitch Black, Purgatory, Time Flies, etc.
Even Iblis's Locked game would be a good submission. It's new and short, but a complete, thought-out game that accomplishes what it's meant to do.
It's so depressing to see Billy the Gnome games get so many damn hits. It isn't right, man! _________________ - Your neighborhood bum, Itistheriz

As nice and original as the idea is, whether or not games are good or bad is simply just a matter of opinion.
What we could do to expand on your idea is have a monthly (or even bi-monthly) voting for the top 10 favorites list so it'll change on a regular basis according to what the community finds worth playing. _________________

That's a good point. Whether or not a game is good is based on opinion.
I'd love to see a top 10 or 20 game list, voted by the community. Is this a plausible idea? _________________ - Your neighborhood bum, Itistheriz

Ummm... this'll only work if we actually vote on a regular basis... _________________ A broken clock is still right twice a day. |

From what I understand, most of these downloads for bad games are coming from bots, not real people. However, that maybe isn't the case now, but... well, let's just say I've heard things from a reliable source. _________________ * SDHawk has joined #Minnek

A fair number of people do vote, actually. (considering the community's size) The only trend that seems to occur is some people vote one month then skip a month and vote the next time.
The best solution to everything is to rip off rateyourmusic.com's system: I suggest some kind of 'rate this game' feature (not review!) and have the games on the site ranked by score somewhere. (You could even include reviews and have them count more into the system) |

To phc and leo: That's not what I mean. That's a thread.
I'm talking about adding a page to the main site. _________________ - Your neighborhood bum, Itistheriz

Since the bot problem has been fixed, and games will soon be ranked by number of downloads this week instead of total, I see this as a non-issue because the top downloads list will be 'purged' of all the terrible games at the top of it. _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

It only would make a difference according to the overall look of THIS site, whereas the results of the voting are NOT on this site. So, what we could do, and I believe that Riz was shooting for this in his original idea, is take those results and have them placed on our index board.
Granted this would probably be kind of a waste, but it would be more bling for CP's main forum page. _________________

The best ideas I've heard so far are A) voting on games and B) recent favorites (i.e. games with high download counts per week).
The big problem with anything like this is that it's bound to exclude either classics like Monterrey Penguin or recent hits like SCHMP. Voting on games helps out old games that we all like and recent favorites is good for overnight successes. _________________

For clarification purposes: Are you guys talking about a number system? Like~
1. Strongly dislike.
2. Dislike.
3. Not great, but worth the time I spent playing it.
4. Good. Definitely worth my time.
5. Excellent. No number of positive things can describe this well enough.
My thoughts:
This is not too similar to the top 10 or 30 threads we've had. It simplifies the reviewing process and gives a general idea of how people liked a game. An average number will appear and the games with the best average will be recognized first.
Just wondering. :/ _________________ Planning Project Blood Summons, an MMORPG which will incinerate all of the others with it's sheer brilliance...
