About three years ago, I suggested a "30-minute Final Fantasy" contest. The premise was to select a Final Fantasy game and recreate it with a total game time of half an hour or less.

To my knowledge, the contest never left the ground. I still think it's a great idea, though. Is anyone interested?

The tentative rules would be:

* The entrants/teams may select any of the "official" FF games (1-11, Tactics, Legend 1-3, Adventure, Mystic Quest, X-2). The same game may be remade by more than one group.
* Ripping music is OK; please use original graphics.

If I get enough interest, I'll formalize the contest. Until then, I'm open to suggestions/debate on the rules.

Dude, I would be all for this. It sounds like a fantastic idea. But... do you have to tell the entire story of the game, like explain the characters, their plot, and then end it all in 30 minutes? And it is revolving around the main story, not a sidestory (example: FF7 story, not FF7 Advent Children or the whole FFX sequel thing)?

Seeing how he included X-2 in that list, I would guess that if you picked Final Fantasy 7, you'd follow Final Fantasy 7. But if you picked Advent Children, you'd follow Advent Children.

Unc: The main thing I was trying to say was, do we pretty much tell the story in a big rush?

You use discretion. You do the best you can. You pace it.

Shadow: Parody or serious, I guess. The contest kind of lends itself to parody, but I wasn't thinking about that.

RMZ: You'd do your best to convey that game's story, not to sequel or fangame it.

Sephy: the contest is still in the discussion phase. No dates yet.

I'm all for it, and if I can, I'll make a Final Fantasy No Ingles (Probably a takeoff of 6, it's the only one I really remember well, but maybe 4.). Won't take it too far into the grounds of parody and ridicule, but we'll get into the general ballpark thereof.

I'll take any, but preferably FFT or FF7. If someone picks one of them, sign me up for the other.

If I do FFT it'll probably be a more serious game, but won't resemble FFt unless you analyze it; if I do FF7 it'll be more of a joke game, since I consider FF7's plot to be largely a joke.

I personally would be willing to team with someone for Tactics or 3.

Actually, come to think of it, I'll do any of these:
FF3
FF7
FF8
FF Mystic Quest
FFT

Even though 4 and 9 are the best games in the series, those 5 would be the most fun to squash.

Your favorite is Tactics and yet you say 4 and 9?

Edit: By the way, potential participants, would you prefer to not allow multiple teams to work on the same FF?

I would honestly be tempted to do Makaitoushi SaGa (FFL1), which is a project I'd LOVE to do... maybe at some point in the future I'd do it.

I don't consider FFT to be a part of the series, really. More like a TO/FF fusion. It IS my favorite, but 4 and 9 are the best in the series.
