Time for another art contest! This one is simple, but important, as it will fit in with an extended series of contests to be held over the course of the coming months. The theme of this contest is to evoke an emotional response from your viewers, though more importantly, it is to hone your skills as artists in doing so.

Firstly, draw an OHR Character of your choice - it may be well known or not, your own or somebody else's, male or female, it matters not. So long as it is an OHR game character who has appeared in at least one game/demo. The size of the picture may be any dimension so long as it'll display adequately on a 1200x1600 screen (this shouldn't be a problem for most of you), and may be handdrawn, pixelated, or in any other media you so choose to render your artwork. Once your picture is done, proceed to the second step.

Secondly, you're to draw the same character EXCEPT to display it in a manner that evokes particularily heroic/noble/superhero traits. In other words, if anyone were to look at that character, they would know without a doubt that that character was a protagonist. Make the viewer want to cheer them on. This is to be done without any significant changes to the character - hairstyle, clothes, etc. (you'll be working with expression here)

Thirdly, you're to draw the SAME CHARACTER again, but this time, draw them as a Villain. Portray the character in the opposite light as a hero. Again, make no significant changes to the character - although if you pull the famous "evil spock with a beard from the mirror universe", it probably won't hurt.

Fourthly, draw the character humorously. Make me laugh. Same rules regarding no significant changes apply.

Finally, draw the character in a maudlin/sad tone. Same as above.

Once you have done all this, submit your five pictures together in this thread. Contest ends June 30th, so you've about one month to work on your entries. You may enter as many times as you like, so long as you do 5 pictures of the same character in the states described above. Once the contest is over, voting will commence to decide who best captured the spirit of this contest - whose artwork shows the character as each of the five the best. The clear winner will receive $10 by mail.

Would you prefer it if all of the images were the same media, or do you care?

I mentioned nothing of the sort, except that you may use any medium you see fit for your artwork. If you feel you can better show off a particular emotion using different ways to draw it, then more power to you.

That sounds kind of interesting, I might very well try out for this thing. The only problem is that I haven't yet released the demo for the game that I'd like to take the character from, lol. So, I guess I'm going to be placing a "rush" order on my game, eh? Both game and artwork, in by June 30th. Happy

Thanks for the motivation, lol.

Edit / Question
Oh! Before I forget, do we need to show the entire character in each image, as in the entire body? Or can one or two of them just have maybe the chest or torso and up?

oh god, No_Shot is the perfect character for this.
I also suggest the guy from "God Damn, It's Dark in Here" and the evil potted cactus.

... I'm not entering because I'll lose.

I didn't specify, therefore, this decision is up to you. If you feel that by drawing the entire character each time, or only the torso and head would work better to your advantage, then do that.

(come on, is it really that hard?)

i love drawing, so i think i might enter. though really i want to see fenny's entry (oh, we all know you'll have to enter. having a drawing contest that you don't bother entering would throw the entire universe into utter and total chaos).

We all know Fen starts all these contests just because he has an idea for an entry that will probably win.

Valid point. I won't enter squat unless the competition is just that good. Fair enough?

Problem? I see no problem with entering a character of yours that no one knows. Fenrir sort of mentioned that you have to invoke an emotion with it. In this way, it doesn't matter who knows the character. As long as you can show an emotion with enough knowledge of that emotion that the face or whole body shows it, then the viewer should sense or assume their character. Draw what ever you like and by all means, do not feel rushed.
On a related note; if I enter, I am only going to draw some common looking fellow that I haven't even developed.

My entry may be a bit abstract, however, I'm sure it's been used in an OHR Game at least once, somewhere. Halloween No Ingles, Pitch Black (Probably) Shadey Night (Probably) etc. Just to make sure it's allowable, I'd like to do the Man in the Moon. (He's got a message for you. Just yoooooooooou.)

and thus the universe is devoid of one of its constants and crumples into a hot steaming pile of fecal matter.

You know what? I will join this contest. I would love to be a part of this. Let us see the reasons:
-I haven't really been that active recently.
-I like drawing.
-Fenrir probably wants me to.
-Somebody else on this community probably wants me to.
-Seems like a good idea.
-Maybe this'll get me enthusiastic about OHR again.
-A koala is biting my arm.
Yeah, I'll join, but I have no idea who to draw? I have some ideas...

Should we ask the owner before we draw?
