A gatoi is a recipe from Papua New Guinea, so maybe you meant something else, perhaps kathoey.

Do remember Thai's not always pronouced the way it's spelled. If I put in a "g", it's because I hear a "g". I don't read Thai so I have no way of knowing how it's spelled. All I know is Kanchanaburi (evidently a sort of mecha for emeralds that make their way onto the Home Shopping Channel) is pronounced with a "g" instead of a "k" and that woman's called Home Shopping several times correcting their pronounciation.

I remember. But you could be considerate of the readers and look up the spelling, too...

And don't you mean Mecca, not mecha?

Yeah...

The guy in my avatar is actually straight, though. I heard he married a female J-Pop star (before divorcing) and his "Vestige" promotional video makes it even more clear that he is not gay. It is just that Japan likes odd and out of the ordinary things, and T.M. Revolution sometimes goes a little far with it (not always. That picture of him wearing diamonds was his worst case).

Kathoeys are not considered / do not consider themselves homosexual; they're considered and consider themselves a "third sex".

I don't understand too much of what you're talking about, but that comment right off-hand hits me like a rationalization form of denial.

Only in our culture, m'dear. Other countries are weird as hell.

Almost everything is a rationalization, this no more than most ideas in our own culture. Even the idea of "culture" itself is a rationalization.

In the spirit of this discussion and of this thread I've changed my avatar (used without permission, though I hope the artist will forgive me).

Wouldn't your location be "Hyrule" now?

Someone else's already tried that trick (in this thread, no less).
