Huitzil Dragon

Preliminary pencil sketch of some art I am working on. I'll post updates as I progress.

Whoa... It looks really enchanting, like right out of a fantasy story or something. Really good dude. I look forward to seeing this one complete.

You remind me of my older brother, James. The sketch style is damn close to flawless. Congratulations on another good piece.

Yes, please post progressions, as there isn't much now (not to mention the sketch is really light...my moniter is on uber-dark and I still could barely see it).

That looks so cool. My sister's gonna flip when she sees this! Big grin

I agree with Shadow though. The picture is a bit too bright. Cool

I have been moving slow on this one, but here is a small progression. I have done just a little additional pencil detail.

I have decided that I cannot put as much detail as I want to into this at the scale I drew it (it is on a standard U.S. 8.5x11 piece of paper) so I ran out last week and bought a printer (the first printer I have actually owned... ever) and I am experimenting with the plan of enlarging portions of the picture, like just the girl for example, blowing her up larger, increasing her brightness till she barely shows up at all, printing her, and then sketching in more detail at a larger scale. Then I plan to re-scan the detailed pieces and composite them back together patchwork-style in The Gimp before I start the coloring process.... at least that is the plan :)

What's with the waist being the same size as the neck? Is this Pro_ana fanart?

Heh, yeah, my drawings of women quite often have unrealisticly thin waists, as well as legs, arms, and necks that are just slightly longer than they should be (although the neck is pretty normal in this picture, compared to some I have done)

I have been doing a little more on this, scanning, zooming, printing, inking, rescaning, erasing, printing, re-inking. Here is another scan where I was unhappy with the shoulder.

I am all ecited about being able to use the computer to erase and then go back to inking with a pen.

I should probably invest in a pen-input board so I can eliminate the scan/print cycle... but I just don't like the idea of looking in one place and drawing in another :)

woah, incredible... it looks like you dug into my head and took the picture of the dragon right out. It's exactly how I imagine a dragon to look like Oookay...;

the thin waist with slightly broad shoulders is a tad disturbing, but wow... incredible picture, I must say
