Hello, all.
I'm in the process of designing yet another game. I haven't really decided on too many details yet, but I do have a fairly good grasp on what the player will be doing in this game.
(Please do not ask me for 'story' or 'gameplay' details yet- I will ignore your request.)
Essentially, the game will be about a situation that became quite relevant to me as I read All Quiet on the Western Front (a great novel; read it!): when a war is taking place, two wars are actually being fought. The first war is the actual battle: soldiers fighting against one another, weaponry, whatever that entails to you. The second battle is fought politically. The relationships between leaders of nations are the root causes of wars, and if the conflict is resolved then there is no need for the other war.
What does this have to do with my idea?
(Note: All words in quote mean that those are just variables. I haven't designed the game yet.)
I want to make a game that puts the player in control of the 'captain' of an 'army.' In addition to actual 'warfare' the player will also greatly affect the 'morale' of his 'soldiers.' All of your 'troops' live in a 'town,' which you visit between 'phases.' (Battles, most likely.) In this 'town,' the player associates with the 'soldiers.' Some will leave or stay in your 'army' depending on their relationship with you, as well as other 'soldiers.'
(Note that this differs from politics between leaders of nations- I believe that it would be more interesting to associate with allies in a more complicated manner. Relationships with enemies are simple enough as they are the villains.)
In any case, the basic theme is that the relationships between allies as well as 'battle prowess' are what win 'wars.' The idea is a bit shaky, but hey, I've only been thinking for a few weeks- these things take time.
What do you think of this idea? |

Silly, you should know by now that graphics are only cosmetic. They'll probably be the last
thing that I add to the game if I decide to make it.

Strategy-similar seems like the way to go as of now, yes. The bulk of the game will be spent
in the 'town,' however. (I will make sure to increase the hero's speed so that exploring the
'town' is less painful.)
Thaks for anticipation, anyway. |
