I was wondering why the 255 character cap on the signature.

Well, actually, I do know why. Because if we don't some people will write friggin essays in their sig which is annoying. However, there are lots of people (myself included) who want to put larger chunks of text (quotes, etc.) but are restricted. For example, if you read my current sig, after adding my comment after the Halloween Contest Entree, my sig was too long and I had to remove info on Lacrymosa.

Anyway, I'd appreciate it if the sig length was increased. Thanks.

Well...there's no real reason for 255 characters....it was the initial default and I just never changed it.

What do you think a reasonable length would be?? I'd be happy to alter it as long as it's reasonable

How about 350? That seems a reasonable number to me. Somewhere between 300-350. Not that I'd use it, but I'm just thinkin', "if I had X information and wanted to display it, what would be the right length?" Don't try to fathom my mind, you might drown in the shallow water Ha ha ha!

Frankly, I don't think there should be signatures at all. Whatever intention the user may have had, they always clutter up the board horribly. And does anyone here REALLY need to see that "hilarious" picture of Alf, or that quote you think sounds soooooooo cool?

Signatures are a must; where else am I supposed to quote Jabbercat and his partial insanity (no offense to Jabbercat). They don't take up much space either, CN. However, I've never really had a problem with sig length.

and what about those of us who are using our sigs to display game progression? ... which is the second trend i've started (the first being dates in game titles for multiple uploadings)

Actuallly, I put updates in my sig back in the days of yore on Zant. with The Crystal Globe.

the sig char limit should be 100. Sigs are too big already, and it's the most useless board feature I have ever seen. Nobody wants to see the same information over and over and over and over and over again. This is the one thing vBB has over phpBB - the option to turn the damn sigs off so you don't have to see everyone's summary on the Illiad.

If you don't want to read it, skip over it. After I've seen someone's signature a few times, I just skip down after the actual post.
