There is far too much emphasis on who is worthy, here.
Cut the shit, and let everyone have an equal chance to be comfortable. You want a democracy in a chatboard? That's where it starts. _________________ SACRE BLEU!

"lol girls can't drive" wouldn't offend any woman who isn't a complete idiot. Anyone who WOULD take serious offense at that, well, I don't think we need that person here anyway. |
Well... I guess I disagree with you, basically. |

| I'm with PHC on this one. "Developmentially disabled" is too large a demographic on this board already. |

| Well, I, and I'm assuming Camdog as well, have a particular instance in mind when I say I disagree. Soule X never really did anything but throw out misogynic comments in his posts. When PHC and Giz are joking around, it's usually fine, but that guy was just an ass. |

No, Camdog, he said that the phrase "lol girls can't drive" was stupid but not mysogynistic. He was only refering to this particular instance, what he said does not by any stretch of reality say that nothing can be both stupid and mysogynistic.
And I can understand what he means. Nobody is going to take someone who says "lol girls can't drive" seriously. They'll either think it's a joke or think the person saying it is just a moron (or both). While Soule X was, I think, slightly more articulate than that, it was still obvious that he was just a moron. If someone posted some serious post about why women are bad at driving (though this seems unlikely) then I could understand people getting offended. It's offensive that someone with some degree of intellegence would actually waste their thought and effort on something so blatantly stupid. But really, if a moron insults you in a moronic way, why even care about it? It's not worth the trouble. _________________ Locked

I dunno, man. As I recall, several people responded to Soule X's post with hearty agreement and examples of why women are bad drivers.
Besides, the point isn't that one idiot made some idiotic remark. The point is that there's a whole "genre" of sexist humor that our culture draws from. If Soule X was the only guy who mentioned women's driving, then he's a lone moron. However, people pick up on this idea and run with it, which is why we hear about women's bad driving all the time. The fact that this kind of humor perpetuates the stereotype sucks. |

In America at least, there is one stipulation that goes along with the freedom of speech: it cannot infringe on others' rights.
(Btw, if the last comment about driving was directed toward me, I'll have you know I have a license, and love my manual 1985 Nissan 300zx. ) |

| Can't you understand that that does make some people feel bad? Not everyone is you, PHC. What makes you the authority on what is and what isn't acceptable racist/sexist humor? |
