The less forums the better. My forum hiding suggestion was just to have as few forums as possible to newcomers. |

If after two months, if all threads from both forums with a last post within a time threshhold (say, a week) could all fit in on the front page, merge them. If combined it would require you to have almost 3 pages, then keep them seperate. |
Unless I'm misunderstanding you, there's no way the forums would stay split this way. |
I'm pretty sure they would end up merged.
I'm just giving people a reason as to why they might not be sustainable seperately.
edit: and in IM's layout, I would cut Site Suggestions, as that would be an extremely slow forum. That would be better handled by PMs or use of a bugtracker-type system. |

Just a small disagreement, I think that the Site Suggestions should stay, or at least, should be easily public and/or viewable. Most suggestions (like the ones we are currently making) do best in the full light where everyone can comment I think. Imagine if this current thread could not exist, and IM was trying to get opinions via PMs. I think it's okay to have a forum that moves along very slowly when it is so clearly a special case. _________________ My first completed OHR game, Tales of the New World:

I'd like to second James' request that no forum be hidden from unregistered users. I think that kind of secrecy is why no one joined the Usergroups after their debut, not to mention rather offputting to someone who wants to lurk and learn.
Also, I don't believe that any of our forums should be OHR Exclusive, or necessarily have OHR in the title, as in Fyre's list. You and Cube have said countless times that CP is open to all game designers and engines, and I think to put one engine over another could discourage the ideal open air market of games, gamemakers, and ideas.
IM's suggestion seems perfect to me, though I wonder if we need a separate forum for The Soapbox. Couldn't there be a system in which a thread is "marked" as Front Page material without moving it from the place it was originally posted? Maybe the elimination of the "announcements" forum will help, but I find myself searching through at least 3 boards before I find the thread I'm looking for.
EDIT: What Fyre says in the next post is almost exactly what I had in mind. He worded it a lot clearer than I could.

As I said before, the point was to reduce clutter, not make it 'secret'.
The issue with the soapbox and front page is there seems to not be a current solution to make them intermingle. If you don't have a forum for it, people tend not to check the top level page and news doesn't get around. But it seems to take up too much space for what amounts to story comments. The only thing I can think of is that IM could write something that shows the thread (as you said Giz) as a front page item
instead of the thread being like
OHRRPGCE Update Supercalifragalisticbugfixaladocious
it would show up as
[Front Page] OHRRPGCE Update Supercalifragalisticbugfixaladocious
[Front Page] being either text or a special icon.
and then front page items would post to the General forum. In theory this would let you also combine Soapbox and the suggestions forum.
this would also let admins promote certain threads to the front page. |

Inferior Minion wrote: | As far as new CP status is concerned, here's where I stand:
- Multiple Author Support
- Journal support for songs
- Journals (and eventually reviews) are tightly integrated into the project display page
- Unlimited screenshot support
- Unlimited downloadable file support (for games, songs still limited to mp3, ogg, wav, bam, and midi).
- Project timeline tracks changes - does not track name/description changes, only file/screenshot changes, author changes, and journal posts.
- File history is maintained across uploads (CP will maintain multiple versions of each file uploaded)
- Project Polling (90% done - can create and manage, can't view or vote yet on project pages)
- Plenty of tracking support - reporting console needs to be built
- All existing tracking surrounding downloads
- How many views for each project (even each screenshot)
- Where are viewers coming from?
- Campaign support, e.g. tagging links with specific names so you can explicitly track clicks. For instance, you create 3 different banners for your project and want to know which banner is providing the most views. You can associate 3 distinct tags, one for each image, and then every time you link to your game, you append the tag associated with that image.

Ah, I missed this. Great to hear so much has been done.
How about the other music formats the OHR supports: MOD, IT, S3M, XM. Actually, people might want to upload other files too, such as project files for whatever tracker they are using, perhaps even Notate .not files! _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |
