Aren't most multiple attacks cases solved by a single SPREAD attack?
Although, presumably, if I am not mistaking, your point is that, if the boss is given 3 attacks, it would be possible for it to attack 2 or 3 times the same character in a row?
What might be even better about that fact is that, provided it could be given a better AI (last time I checked there are only attacks for alone, desperate and regular, correct me if I'm missing on anything) that speed would allow a smoother change between ai, and as such, you're almost certain the boss will have a turn during his "desperate" period, so he WILL use that healing spell...

On the counterpart, breaking down bosses' massive attacks into different attacks will somewhat diminish the "wow" factor of each attack (that's a very minor negative reason, I agree) but will more importantly crowd the battle with a lot of attacks... As far as this is concerned, I'm thinking HP regeneration is somewhat a better answer, but as you said twice I believe, combining different ideas is interesting too, so its not really about finding the best way as to finding several different ways to avoid giving the impression of a tailored boss system. And I agree on that as well Happy

I'd thought I'd poke back in to note that boss regeneration also makes certain other things more dangerous. In particular, for the OHR's battle meter system, attacks that target the heroes' speed stat, attack stat, and especially the stun/sleep status register, become that much more harmful to the party and demand instant attention from the player. Spells that counter these things, and spells that lower defense, become more valuable perhaps.

I've always been a fan of giving more importance to status effects so, although Haste/Slow is already pretty common, the stun/sleep sorta gains a lot from it.
Also, is your monster HP regen fixed or relative? (in the latter case, affecting magical stats would become relevant as well...)

The latter, yes. What I mean by spreading around damage more, is that it might hit a fighter twice, and a healer once (if it has three attacks, you might give it two), but the healer might have gotten hit harder.

If you haven't figured this out yet, you'll want to keep the extra attacks to non-special attacks. What can happen is the boss does <Special Attack/Status effect/Magic> on one character, then <Attack> another one.

I heavily disagree if you're smart. Sure, if you make the boss cast Ultima three times in a row, then you've done it wrong and ruin the "wow" factor, but extra attacks are mostly for physical attacks, and we all know how "wow" physical attacks are these days.

Again, I can't make you use multiple attacks per turn, but I'm trying to tell you why you would want to use them. I know this topic is mostly about HP regeneration, but...

Don't get me wrong. There are many good ways to have a decent battle... I'm just focusing on just these two.
