/me puts in a cheap plug from his article.

They lead the player into the rest of your game
They increase hits/initial opinion
They make the game better remembered

Here's my two cents on graphics:
Think of graphics as a sort of air or feeling to a game, if the graphics suck then you get a game that has constant bad pong to it regardless of other elements, while great graphics help to create a good impression but it's only like a good fragrence in a room... it doesn't decide exactly how the person thinks of the contents of the room.

To Dan:
Your welcome, I'm glad to have been a help.
To Planethunter:
That's a very interesting comment. I like it. I guess I'd say that the 'bad fragrance' of the room doesn't really affect me that much, but I guess that I still keep my room clean at home, so that others who may want to visit don't have to put up with I am willing to put up with.
I have thought about redoing the graphics in my game, and I even posted a 'help wanted' thing in the announcements a while back, but the problem is that the game is already so big, and anyone who would be willing to help would probably find it too much, and me too picky as well. Although a friend of mine is now in graphic design in Pittsburgh, and he may do some battle backdrops for me for this year's update, or maybe next year's. |

I have a friend who is a great artist, but he doesn't like drawing stuff on the computer. He prefers to take an image and edit it, which does look good, but then the graphics are ripped...
I also like the "fragrance" analogy; it makes sense.

If you want an example of a game that has exellent graphics, but the main focus was lost and the story and gameplay a failure. Try Dafalos. I know its an RPGspOt game... but I must face my fears and admit to defeat on this such occasion. Really, please try it. You'll be suprised at the quality.
