I just upgraded from my 2008 version of the OHRRPGCE, and I was looking through the plotscript dictionary to see what, if anything, has changed.

Oh my.

Can someone point me to a resource that explains what slices are and how to use them, and something similar for menus and sprites? The OHR Howto, FAQ, and Documentation don't seem to cover these topics yet.

Welcome to the future, Mr. B.

JSH wrote an article on slices in the most recent issue of HamsterSpeak. There are two parts to the article, and both make learning slices easy. As far as menus go, the most important thing to remember is that you open menus by number, but close and manipulate them by variables (aka handles). I don't think there are any articles on menus unfortunately, but if you get a grasp on slices, you shouldn't have any difficulty with menus. It may be time for someone to write an extensive lesson on menus for HamsterSpeak, since they are still a source of confusion for some people.

Sprites and slices use the same basic functions. The difference is that slices act as "containers" while sprites act as "sprites."

See 'Slices' for the slices tutorial.

I can't recall there being any tutorial or howto for menus.

To be exact, sprites are a type of slice (the others are "text", "container", "rect" and "grid"), and all slices are containers ("container slices" are just the most basic type of slice, not good for much besides being containers).

Wow, nice article. I'll have to use that. You know, once I absorb it all.

I can't believe the OHRRPGCE has progressed to this level. You can use the simpler levels to make a decent game, but you can expand to crazy complex and powerful stuff when you want. It's great!

Yeah, awesome. Except for those of us who are REALLY SLOW at picking these things up... like myself...

Ugh. I need more slices tutorials...
