@James
Are there any sci fi stories where people go back in time and instead of killing someone, they father (or give birth to) themselves? Grossness aside, it's a weird puzzle of genetics.

@Sh4dow
Near death experience how?
Like, "I totally coulda died!" kinda experience?
Or ... "And there was this bright light and grampa was there and president Kennedy was there ... " kinda experience?

I don't know.

D'you think nearly choking on some corn would bring me to seeing the light?
I do, actually.

I think you'd have better chances with rump-roast.

@The World
Okay, ums:
In case you can't think of anything to put on your "to do" or "done it" list,
dare anyone list any regrets?

Regrets:
1) Refusing to learn gymnastics, dance or martial arts (a decision I was too young to even remember)
2) Excessive video gaming
3) Discovering the purpose of meaning (there are some things man was never meant to know ... which strangely implies that there are some things man was never purposed to mean)

@Bagne - There was an episode of Futurama where Fry becomes his own grandfather. And somebody was telling me about a time travel story where somebody becomes his own father and his own mother (after a sex change in the technologically advanced future) but I can't remember the name of it.

1) see the end of jojo's bizarre adventure, which may take a while seeing as how the author is an immortal vampire.
2) make the best game ever.
3) write a comic book. this one doesn't have to be the best ever. I can settle for mediocre.

Anyways, these are the thoughts that go through my mind when I'm sitting back in a swivel chair, a gun at my head, contemplating the emptiness of life for hours on end before I finally set it back down and put it back into the study room drawer, whispering to myself, "Not yet... not yet....."

In the words of Baconlabs:
OH GOD, WHAT HAS SCIENCE DONE?!?!?!?

Man, that makes the genetics even more confusing ...
Does (s)he have XY chromosomes, or XX chromosomes?
Euh ... I guess that depends on whether (s)he is born a boy or girl ...
Maybe the Y chromosome wasn't required and they just did some sort of bizarre in-vitro fertilization ... euh ...
That's still super confusing. The offspring needs to have the exact same genotype as both parents, despite the millions of crossovers that occur during meiosis ... meaning that every chromosome pair must be identical!
Wow, (s)he's homozygous for every single gene!

Sorry, I think I just geeked out a little there.

The Man Who Folded Himself by David Gerrold! That was it! I haven't read it yet, but I think the author glosses over the genetics of the situation and focuses on the social aspects of meeting yourself via time travel (Also, I may have, in fact, spoiled the ending)

@Rimidora - Guns and swivel chairs are both dangerous-- doubly so when used in combination. You take care of yourself, okay? We like having you around!

@Sh4d0ws - beards! Growing up I always wanted a beard. All my male role-models had beards. My Dad, my grandpa, my uncle, my cousin, Santa Claus, Jesus...

#1 on my list would have always been to meet a beautiful girl and fall in love, and 4 years ago I met Genny. That is why my top 5 list has room for silly things like Betelguise and sex-in-lunar-orbit. (also she tolerates the existence of my beard! Yay!)

Met the girl of my dreams, now she's in Haifa, Israel. (She's coming back though :-D) I would have included her in my "awesome things in my life" list, but we're not married yet :-S
Strangely, the only other sweetheart I ever had is also currently living in Haifa, but for entirely different reasons.

I also just realized that NeoSpade jumped onto a moving vehicle while wearing full plate. Is there an equally awesome story behind this claim?
Also, kudos to the 4 story dive!
I jump off of roofs occasionally ... but only 1 story roofs!

After googling "jojo's bizarre adventure" I suddenly realized that I have a copy of the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Super Famicom game! I found it at a swap meet about 10 years ago along with a copy of Super Dante RPG Maker, neither of which I have ever really played because I can't read more than like 2 kana.

I guess I'm a bit late, but just had to throw in that beards ARE, in fact, awesome. I would like to one day be able to sport a big wizard silver-gray beard I think.

Somebody has probably already written it.

Well there's an episode of a mystery series (it was either Outer Limits or that other one that's similar) where a woman travels back in time to kill Hitler as a baby. She succeeds doing so, but at the end they show that the noble family steals the baby of a beggar which then becomes the 'real' Hitler.

There isn't an awesome story, but there is a nerdy one Big grin

I was 15, we used to use a huge farm for LARPs, the farm included a rather large and fast moving river which we could only really cross with a large vehicle (the pick-up truck), as a joke (a rather cruel one might I add Sad...), my friend asked me to pick up the left over gear (which I did), the Pick-up was moving by the time I'd grabbed the stuff, I ran full pelt towards it, to be certain that I'd not break my nose I had to get in line with it, I nearly did break my nose but made it in :p. I'll never forget the look on his face :p

If we could time travel, the world will just turn into a weird version of wikipedia - there will be all these revert wars.

Ha! And vandalism!
Some archeologist will be really confused when he uncovers an ancient temple mural upon which is inscribed:
"HAI, IM IN UR HEIROGLYPHS EATIN UR IBISES"

I read a story called "All you zombies" in which a single person, as a result of time travel, was his own mother, father, and daughter. It took place during a time travel war.

Further, David Lister, the hero of the series Red Dwarf, was his own father.

In any case killing Hitler would be pointless. Germany had plenty of intelligent, evil anti-Semites. Germany aside, Stalin and Roosevelt were almost as bad in their own respective countries (though FDR wasn't quite as bad as Wilson). Evil is as evil does.
