I notice spam threads popping up in here every now and then.

May I suggest that anonymous posters not be allowed to make post that contain urls?

Or put in a captcha on anonymous posts.

I think the captcha would be the better of the two options. What if somebody wanted to share a demo of the game he needed help with?

I've been deleting spambot posts as they crop up / I become aware of them. They mostly seem to be the same ones advertising Viagra.

Yes, limiting anonymous posters from posting links at all seems a bit unfair.
How about requiring a captcha only if they post a link? Maybe that's too much trouble.

That is a fantastic idea (assuming it isn't too much work)

EDIT: by the way, in my opinion, text based captcha is better than image based captcha. Stuff like "what is five plus three?" or "is kansas a state or a country?" or "my favorite color is blue. what is my favorite color?"

Plus the blind would be able to answer.

I've been meaning to implement the same captcha which has successfully been preventing bots from registering. It's a simple text based question/answer but the bots haven't been able to get passed it so far.

It's been pretty low on my list of things to do, mostly because the spambot turnout hasn't been overwhelming or hard to maintain, but I can take a look into implementing this tonight.

Cheers,

~IM

I've implemented the textual confirmation question into anonymous posting. Hopefully we don't see any more bot posts.

Let me know if you run into any posting problems as a result of this change.

Thanks,

~IM
