If the Sand game we're talking about is the one with the falling sand, I don't see any problems with calling it a game. I would easily consider it a game, as much as I'd call it a simulation or activity. I would consider say, Castlevania a simulation and activity as well, but I wouldn't say that it's not a game. Just with the Sand game/activity/simulation, I don't see any problem with calling it whichever, but not to the point I would say that saying it's a game is wrong.

This is pushing it, but wouldn't the goal of the Sand Game be to interact with it? Otherwise, nothing happens.

Unless nothing happening is your goal!! Nope, I'm pushing it too.

The fact that game has an arguable definition says a lot. I question the point of having this conversation in the first place. I think it's going to be a pretty fruitless effort. "Game" means different things to different people.

What? I'm not disagreeing with Rya? This surprises even me! (Just kidding with you, Rya.)

I'm not sure why you're all doing something as comically pointless as arguing over a definition (why would you honestly care, there's nothing wrong with creating or playing with Crawford-toys). I will never be in 100% agreement with any of you over the definition of a "game", so I would rather just use Crawford's definition if we care about a precise (precise != accurate, ie classification-by-Crawford isn't easy) classification. Why does everyone care about classification all of a sudden? The Falling Sand Game is not a Crawford-game. Of course, a very broad all-encompassing definition of a video/computer game is extremely useful for use in sentences like "I am working on a computer game". Maybe you would even call fortune(6) a game? :P

Wait, before the thread dies, somebody has to tell me what "SUAMYG" stands for. A google search proved inconclusive, and linked back here to CP

I find it more hillarious that CP is an acronym for Child Porn and we use that acronym constantly.

The persons who read CP and interpret it as "Child Porn" are to blame here. Not the persons that write CP and think of "Castle Paradox".

Is your avatar a chimera dog? Also, acronyms are the root of all evil when overused, but not when underused.

MAIAKD, FTR-LG"R". EADKGYHPBS, CYTRT, WIHUYAWAHTGTC, IWCIIA. KIBSB, BITMYTNT.

My avatar is a Knilb dog, from the Rogue-like game "Ragnarock". Eating a dead knilb gives your hero permanent blink status, causing you to randomly teleport, which is horrible unless you are wearing a helmet that gives teleport control, in which case it is awesome. Knilb is blink spelled backwards, but it took me years to notice that.

James, we love you, seriously.

Anyhow, I also consider this a wasted effort. Maybe if we were for some reason pressed to decide what exactly people could 'legally' upload to this site and what they couldn't. Fortunately we're free to upload pretty much anything we like as long as it's OHR related.

SUAMYG? For some odd reason I feel this acronym has completely lost any punch it may have once had. If there were a vote on its continued use, I think I'd vote against it.

In general I get the feeling some of you may be forgetting that this is in no way a professional site. Attempting to apply professional sense to this place is like going up a mountain in fifth gear.

If there were a vote on people shutting up and making their games, I'd vote for it.

How about we all just shut up about shutting up and then make our games? It's what we should all strive to be doing.
