I was very particular about Hoshima's appearance as well as Saki, Kounnosuke, and Dr. Ryu's.

I've had these characters designed to look like this since 2002 and I will not change it based upon an appearance similarity.

Okay, I've posted the next demo with about 40 minutes of gameplay.

Note: There is a bug with a boy that wants to play tag with you. You can play it with him, but if you cannot move down upon being tagged, the game will freeze. You can ALT+ENTER to close out the game, but I plan to fix it.

Download link:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J0HDQ28Q

and if you cannot run it without the RTP, you can download that here:
http://www.enterbrain.co.jp/tkool/RPG_XP/eng/rtp_download.html (scroll to the bottom and download it) then install it. After that, I sure as hell hope the game works.

The gameplay isn't bad (really basic as is most games are when you just start at the beginning). My advice to those that will play it is to get to level 3 or 4 before fighting the boss so you can get the most out of a 150 HP healing item you get (which I actually had to use, along with the rest of my 50 HP healing items and an MP recovery item while fighting the boss when I was at level 2).

It irks me that transition between menus are so instantaneous. Save your game, and there's no "game is saved!" message. It just goes back to the game. Battles are nearly the same. It displays your rewards, but the transition back to the map happens so fast you wonder, "Huh? What just happened? I blinked and missed it!" I'm used to the screen fading to black, and then a second later it fades to the map.

The graphics... They aren't original, so I might as well mark a "zero" as my score and consider the awesome graphics lazy placeholders.

The music is the best part of this game. I should have thought of keeping the sound track and deleting everything else while getting the game off my hard drive.

Oh, and I found a map collision error. In the first town, you can walk right through the building beside the save point. It is nothing tragic, but it is a playtester's duty to report these things.

- The first boss was designed for you to safely beat at level 3. You CAN beat him at Level 2, but it's not as easy.

- The menu/battle aspects of it are just what the program comes with. I'm not a handy scripter just yet, so I'm currently operating with the barebones functions of the engine. Believe me, some of it pisses me off as well.

- Some of those graphics are original or at least sprite manipulations. Hoshima, Saki, and Dr. Ryu were all manipulations but Kounnosuke was a completely redesigned sprite. I'm not a good pixel artist (if you've played any of my previous games), so to see my original graphics in this game would be horrendous, so mock it if you will, but that is my reason.

- I should hope that a game made by me had, at the least, music as it's best feature Wink

- That collision error is actually not an error, nor is it an intention. You are supposed to be able to interact with it as a shop. Now, I know I didn't clearly define it as a shop for the player to be aware of. I DO need to fix it though where instead of interacting with the window, you instead interact with an individual that you know is a shopkeeper. This is something I need to fix for the next demo.

Thanks for the reports.

I would just try to recruit a good pixel artist of some kind. You have the musical talent to go with it. Try to see if this is a project that a pixel artist would be interested in supporting.
