Happy you liked the Hist-OHR-y Mew.
I'm not sure what aspect of history I should cover for the next one, some ideas I've had are:
- history of Ohrrpgce games considered "classics" (necessarily subjective, but I think there is some agreement over what the classics are)
- history of the engine itself: when it got what features, and how those features were used
- history of Ohrrpgce contests (48 hour contests, 168 hour contests, Human Day contests, and so on)
- history of games "companies" (Insight Games, Red Murdock Software, RPGCreations)
Any other ideas? _________________ Tower Defense Game |

I like the retrospective reviews idea, but perhaps I could do it author by author, such as Valkayrie's games, or Vidual's games, etc.
Normally the 48 hour contest is held in the summer, and djfenix tends to run it.
Actually a lot of people still in the community belonged to one of those companies; Moogle1 was in Red Murdock, I believe Lucier and Fortis were in Insight Games, and RPGCreations is still around. They were more like clans/guilds rather than companies, often with huge memberships and their own messageboards, and are a pretty big part of the community's history.
But you're right, those who didn't belong to them might not be interested in them, so if nobody else wants to read about them I'll leave them out.
I like the idea of a James Paige interview; it could probably be done over e-mail. _________________ Tower Defense Game |

Good issue, no doubt. Less stuff in it = no bueno for sure. I will probably have a couple things to submit by the time the next one's out. _________________ SACRE BLEU!

If no one else wants to, I'd be interested in designing the cover for the next issue. _________________ ---------------Projects----

More to the point, there never were a lot of companies other than the three mentioned (at least companies that lasted more than a month or so). I have a hard time imagining how you could make a decent article about that.
Yeah, I know, this is the point where you bring up Avian Labs and Black Sun Productions, but nothing on the scale of those three. _________________

There was also KS Software.
I was picturing the article covering the different styles of game and sensibilities of each company. For instance, Red Murdock focused on more hard-core western style gamer type games and didn't mind mature content and nudity, Insight Games was more Japanese-style, and RPGCreations was more philosophical-style.
I was also picturing it covering the different intrigue between the groups, for instance when Ben Ohki stole an alpha copy of Destiny Calls off the Red Murdock server, or when Red Murdock staged a coup against StellarX and tried to oust him from the company.
But yes, there's not *too* much content, I don't think I could get anything on the size of the first part of the Hist-OHR-y out of it. _________________ Tower Defense Game |

Personally, I think the whole company history would be a good read, even if it wasn't a very long article. I was just a lurker back in the old days but i'd still enjoy hearing about the big dogs back then. Just my two cents. _________________ MOCBJ Software - My Games

I don't particularly distinguish drama from the other aspects of history. For example, Jefferson had an affair with one of his slaves: drama or history? Not that anyone in the Ohrrpgce community is as important as he is, but an accurate history of him would mention that about him.
But I agree with you that the more stupid things shouldn't be put the history (like how Ben Ohki's girlfriend once insulted Komera leading to Komera and I leaving the community and then secretly returning under new names and releasing a new game a few weeks later, haha).
To spice it up, I could acquire interviews from members of those companies. I'm still in contact with StellarX and Tarot-Master for example, one of them would do for Red Murdock. Maybe Lucier or her brother or Fortis or even Fyrewulff or Charbile (since they were in there -- RPGCreations was actually at first a "branch" of Insight Games I think) could be interviewed about Insight Games.
There's also one company I forgot about: The White Tigers of the Shogunate, which was made up of Harlock, Byakko, and Novakaiser. Harlock just told me that Silverwolf, Kami, Byblos, and Rainyfrog were also in that group. _________________ Tower Defense Game |
