Wow, I haven't read the entire thing just yet, but the stuff I did read was really good stuff, and it was all quite interesting. I really like everything about this, and I will most definitely submit something in the next few days for the next issue. Great job again.

I still think that most of the reviews were not much above the level of writing of the better reviews on this site's game's list. I may be mis-remembering how good Ohrrpgce reviews used to be, but I'd say Haggard's reviews in Ohrrpgce Monthly, and Specplosive's reviews on RPG-Online, were better than all the reviews in Hamsterspeak, excepting your review of Dogworld which was really great.

Not taking the effort to vote in it doesn't necessarily equate to not liking to read it. I don't know how popular it is now, but it was the page on Ohrrpgce Monthly that had the most traffic, so I think that people at least enjoy reading it, if not partaking in it. The number of people voting for the Top30s in Ohrrpgce Monthly was around 50 on average, but the community was larger then.

I think that the proportion of the Top30 poll approaches that of Gallup polls (they usually poll about 3000 or so people, out of 300 million Americans), so I think it's about as accurate as those are (which, isn't very). Poll results are popular attractions regardless of their validity, to judge from how often they're mentioned in the media. So while I agree that it's meaningless as a measurement, I don't think absolutely nobody cares about it.

Also, part of its value was psychological: people would often make better games in an attempt to create games that placed in the top spots of the Top30.

But I'm not arguing that it should have had a Top30, I was just saying that I missed it having a Top30.

Actually, those Gallup polls are pretty accurate. If you get a large enough sample size (number, not percentage, mind you) that accurately reflects the makeup of the larger groups (same demographics, etc.), you can get information with a pretty small margin of error. I believe 3000 people will give you a 3% margin of error or so.

Er, sorry to threadjack. Loved the magazine, and I think I might try to contribute something soonish...

Pretty Cool, now I can look forward to future episode. Lack of a periodic magazine felt like a big gap in community. I'm still reading it.

When Ubersetzung is released (which might be pretty soon) there might be the possibility for some short summary/explanation/tips for use of the new features. But I am not sure, prehaps something like a guide for the changes to scripts would be better hosted on the wiki.

PS: I notice that the html pages do not specify a font, so a viewing browser will use whatever happens to be its current default, resulting in possibly undesired/unreadable results. Maybe this is just a firefox bug.

The tips would be good on the wiki. But if you want to put them in the mag first and later cross-post them in the wiki, we'd be honored.

I was overall very happy with the way my game was reviewed, but there are a few little...annoyances that I've like to have sorted out of the way.

I don't remember giving any of the dwarves a bow in any point in the game, so it looks like Calehey kinda got rangers mixed up with archers. :p

My spriting method is also a bit...varied.
Instead of scanning images, I spend a bit of time to make a nice outline, then I either scribble colors in (See the earlier enemies, such as the dark foes in the Light Master's training ground) or I pull an AdrianX (See the later boss graphics). It's nice to know that my freehand style can be perceived as a scanned image though. Big grin

Backdrops..Um...I've never been good at large-scale images, so I mainly stick with gradients, except I mix in a little this 'n that to make them look less simplistic.

Battles. Ho ho ho! I made all of the attacks stackable, so battles would be easier in the beginning. But then the power of the dwarves got too big to handle, so I had to counter this with more powerful enemies. By the end, enemies are capable to kill you in two hits, so you need to take advantages of these bugs features.

Once again, I like that the review wasn't overly negative, but I'd like Calehey to replay a farther developed version of the game for a future issue of hamsterspeak.

The "Review Wars" forum is a more appropriate place to discuss reactions to reviews.

I'll gladly make a cover, but a cover without knowing what the material is is kinda senseless.

OHR Septa/monthly had a featured game every month, so a cover made accordingly would be fitting.

Just send me a note or something with an idea for a cover, and i can whip one up.

Hi, I was away from home for a few days, but I just wanted to let you (PHC) know that the frame scrolling was fixed for me, so you nailed the problem. I don't have a whole lot useful to say about the magazine; like most people here I found it a pretty interesting read, but nothing about it really blew me away. I agree that the reviews were better than most reviews at CP, but not by a whole lot, to be perfectly honest. I'm not really sure what I feel could be improved; I don't think I could write anything better than those, so I'm afraid I can't give many suggestions. Maybe it would be neat to have a game played by two different people, and then each gives a review, and they both get a chance to make remarks about the other's review? Maybe not that exact formula, but I think it might be neat to get two different views at once on a single game, as long as the game is big enough to support such commentary.

For some reason, that makes me think of Fenrir-Lunaris's reviews where he would take on the persona of more than one furry and review it as if there were more than one person, even though he also reviewed his own game Raspberry!

As far as reviews go, perhaps a feature like an interview, where a person asks various questions to an author about their game, or like you said, have two different people review the same game. Perhaps they have to put down certain criteria or have the review in a certain format so that readers can compare the two easily.
