Anybopdy have any ideas regarding making backround music that is "scary" or suspensful? Ive tried but it just sounds plain stupid.

Try using the whole tone scale (c d e f# g# a# c, or c# d# f g a b c#). All the triads in that scale are augmented, so that's nice and creepy right off the bat. Put a sparse, wandering melody over the top of that... Should do the trick nicely.

Darn, I'd seem to be the best person to ask about that, but it's hard for even me to explain.

There's not a right or wrong way to do scary music. That sounds like I might be full of it, but that's really the truth. Look at Resident Evil, where they did some good creepy music. Now, take a look at Silent Hill, where the openings and endings all had 70s grunge rock and most of the atmosphere was created with sound rather than music.

Also, most psychological thrillers will have sweet classical music playing while someone's being brutally murdered.

The style of horror you want should determine the music you put out. Look at the kind of horror you're trying to make with your game and then decide what kind of music you should do. That's probably the best advice I can give you.

Any advice would sum up to this:
You, as the composer, have to first see the vision of the project before you can musically give life to it.
