|
|
This was done once before (By Harlock... but correct me if I'm wrong). Actually, I'm not TOTALLY sure it's been done before.... but I remember mention of it.
Most everyone knows Cantebury Tales by Chaucer, right? Well, last night, Gizmog and I each took the floor in #PL and told stories. This gave me the idea to revive this. How about we stage a sort of Cantebury Tales thing one night in #ParadoxLounge?
The idea behing Cantebury Tales, for the uneducated, is there is a large group of people traveling to Cantebury. On the way, they decide to entertain each other by telling stories they know of, ones they've made up, or relating truthful events which have happened to them. The participants used tales to make people laugh, cry, even get revenge on other participants (Like... if the butcher didn't like the baker, he'd tell a story about an incredibly stupid baker).
At the end of all this, the "Host" of the event picked the best one who was awarded somehow (It's been a few years since I read it... I forget). In the book, everyone got to tell 2 tales, but for this, methinks we'd only have time for 1.
WE NEED 3 JUDGES FOR THIS!! If you'd like to be a judge, then reply to this thread. First 3 will be accepted.
Judging will work like this. 3 judges will rate each story privately 0-10 as they're told. At the end, they will tally up their scores, and the best score will be awarded Best Tale. If the judges want to tell a story, they automatically rate their own a 7, and the other 2 judges rate it as normal.
Also, judges are important because they determine when this will be held. Let me explain.
This will probably start early in the evening and run until early in the morning, to account for those who go to bed early, or those who get on IRC late. The judges, however, need to be there for the whole thing. SO, the judges will agree upon whatever night to hold this, and announce it.
SO! get your best stories ready! Fact or fiction, outlandish or down to earth, horror or comedy, come prepared to be entertained, and to entertain! |

I expected some replies to this, so that's why I left it alone, but it didn't get replies. Surprising. Anyway, I'll sticky it since I think this is quite a good idea. I didn't really like The Canterbury Tales all that much, but this could be good nonetheless.
Oh, and as much as I'd like to, I will not be judging because I don't have time to do so. Sorry. :\ _________________

You know I'd love to be a judge, but I don't know how I would be able to do that very good as I am still under an orange alert full blown computer delema. Is there any way you guys suggest a (possible) judge can judge if he isn't able to get on the IRC very often? _________________ Planning Project Blood Summons, an MMORPG which will incinerate all of the others with it's sheer brilliance...

I'll do it, I consider myself a decent judge of literature and storytelling. Who knows, I might tell a story too.
Be warned: I have comp curfew at 10pm PST. I also tend to work Saturday nights, but any other night of the week should be open.
Uh, yeah. _________________ But enough talk, have at you! |

Ok, so TM and I for sure...
Leroy: I'd rather get it all done in one evening, but if it absolutely comes down to it, I suppose someone could log it, and send you the log. (I would really rather not, but if all else fails...)...assuming I understood your post, of course.
Shadowii: So that puts you off at 1 AM EST, 12 midnight CST then? Eh... I'd rather have a judge who could stay later. Some people don't even get on until after that, and I'd like this to fit to as many poeple's schedules as possible. |

You got it right, jazz. That would be nice if you could give Minnek the file and he can pm me to tell me it's there so I can get it from him. Sure that sounds complicated, but I can work it out. I am Pming Minnek now.
Basically I think I can be a good judge, george. _________________ Planning Project Blood Summons, an MMORPG which will incinerate all of the others with it's sheer brilliance...

Before I start, everyone go ahead and yell at me for reviving a dead (sticky) thread despite my telling people not to do it.
Okay, now that that's over with, since this topic seems to be dead, un-stickied. Jazz, if this is still going on, let me know and I'll re-sticky it. _________________
