Critters!

Finally. This game was a breath of fresh air after playing all those lame fanboy games. The plot was Critters! is as original as can be. But can Grim take this creative concept and turn it into a great game?

Storyline-Abbot, a blobber orphan from the town of Planta is told that he is the only person who can save the world from a evil human known as the Wizard. Been done before? Yes. But this time there's a real reason. All of the other townscreatures in Planta are eventually going to take root. Which would be kind of awkward in the middle of an adventure. So Abbot heads out, journeying through the nearby caves to New Aqua, the last town the Wizard was seen in. And on the way he meets the Wizard, whose been setting up TNT. After a fight, where Abbot makes use of all the TNT lying about, the Wizard runs, uttering dire threats. After arriving in New Aqua, he finds one of the Wizard's former soldiers, and finds out that the Wizard is after something called the Weather Globe, which is kept in an underwater tower offshore. The only way to get there is by getting Chenz, a mean inventor to lend you his ship. Which he won't. So Abbot has to recruit Chenz's sister Lara to help talk sense into Chenz, and her husband Baro comes along too. Did I mention that all of these people are some type of giant floating jellyfish? Anyway, the game runs into a bug that prevents you from ending the game at this point. But talking to Grim assured me that it was the last text box you see in the demo, so it really isn't a big problem. I found almost all of the characters entertaining, expect Baro and Lara who I found to be too stereotypical. The demo takes about about hour to beat, I think you'll enjoy following the adventure of the clueless Abbot.

Graphics-First of all, I'd like to say that the battle backgrounds in this game are fantastic. They look like they belong in museum. The characters are well detailed, and special effects and situations are really added to with great graphics. The town of New Aqua is done especially creatively. My only qualm is the lack of detail on the overworld, but this is a very minor thing in the end. Great cutscenes too.

Gameplay-Creative battles and enemies, maps are well designed and interesting. My biggest complaint is that the items in the game are very sparse, and in New Aqua, you can't buy any healing items. Still, the game is fun to play, and I enjoyed my time with it.

Music-According to Grim, the music is all original. It's pretty good stuff, though certain areas lack music at all. It's really not that big of a deal with me though.

Scores:
Graphics: Wow. Just wow, Grim.
9.0/10
Music: Not bad. It's original.
7.0/10
Storyline: Original and fresh. A few annoying characters are all that stops this from being a great.
8.0/10
Gameplay: Argh. Only an hour long. "sniff"
8.0/10
Overall (Not an average score): Maybe it's just me, but it seems that this game was made with a lot of time and careful consideration to detail. I enjoyed it, and you should too.
9.0/10
